SSY 1/96 Alfa or Precision Patterns 1/96 Permit

Initially I posted a query about where I can get the cheapest GRP submarine hull http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1490167
unfortunately my thread was hijacked.

I did a little searching on my own and I've narrowed it down to 2 possible candidates, the Scale shipyards Alfa and Precision Patterns Permit both in 1/96 scale.

In your opinion which is the better one to get if you're on a tight budget?

Also does the Alfa kit come with it's own prop or do you have to purchase it separately?

All in all i think the permit would be easier to build, but as far as cost goes, in the end i think they would be very close in cost.

In either case, CALL TO VERIFY AVAILABILITY before you order anything, or pay for it.

as far as the alfa goes, you get a hull, resin appendages (that aren't accurate, i believe rogue subworks sells an upgrade set) and a set of plans.
it is also small and very tight in the stern, getting linkages that work in there is difficult. I don't think it comes with a prop.

if this is important to you, the alfa is a polyester hull, but the permit is epoxy.

I MAY BE WRONG ON THIS:
I believe Precision Pattern has closed down his shop for the time being, he is moving from kansas to i think montana. until that move is completed, i think everything is in boxes. CALL/EMAIL HIM TO VERIFY THIS.

PS, i have been eyeballing the SSY alfa myself, i think it would be a nice counterpart to the SWM blueback that i have. I just haven't gotten up the gumption to order one.

The Alfa is a really nice handleing boat.
And you are correct about the rear end being tight.
Really small custom linkages and a lot of bad language were required for the job.
The Permit is surely the best of the two kits as to completeness.
But they boat are excellent choices as far as hulls go. Dave.

Guys,

My shop is all packed up and will be headed for Montana on October 3rd. I will not be back into production until September of 2012 at the latest. I usually keep a stock of all of my boats with the exception of the products I import from Norbert Bruggen. I special order all of that so there can be a substantial delay for those products.

Sorry, I sold out the last batch of Permits several weeks ago. I will not be producing any kits until next year after the new shop is all set up at our new location.

Too bad.
I asked around some and found out that the SSY Alfa kit doesn't include a prop and stern planes ( Roguesubworks is selling improved stern planes plus water induction scoops).
