Hinging a Higgins

I just had to ask - I have a CA Sloper sitting in the shop, and I know the hinges are the weak link... I set it up like an inland sloper with heavy plastic tape, but I assume that's not the real answer - which is...?

I keep saying I'm going to sell it, but I can't let it go - some day it will find a wind and a slope to suit it....

Thanks!
Brent

Probably silicone or goop hinges. Nothing wrong with good quality tape hinges, really. I use 3M Blenderm on my ships and it has held up fine to mild DS speeds.

You really serious about the tape, if properly done never comes of in flight IMO.

Winds over 30mph aren't so rare here (but possibly in your area?).

Cheers

Use 5200 fast cure marine adhesive, thin bead and it will hold up long after you plant that plane into the ground, i have tested it many times. Ian

I went the cheap route and just used house hold silicone on my r10, came out perfect and it held up really firm at 148mph...... I couldn't find the fast cure so I had to improvise.

Nice lookin Cali sloper by the way

I used tape hinges on my Higgins Alias for about ten years. On my new Rodent I'll go with E-6000 for the hinges *after* I've properly closed out the subtrailing edge.

I used E6000 on my Baby Jart and it's held up great.

Thanks for the feedback (and nice words about the ship) ... I only get a day or 2 a year that would support flying it, don't want to ruin that day with a bad setup.
