It's Here - Parkzone Spitfire Mk IX

Well the LHS got in the new Spitfire, along with my retracts and prebent struts. I had to have it and picked it up on Sept 14th, the day before the BoB memorial day in Great Britain. I put it together and managed to get a maiden flight in on the 15th! What a pure winner.

Here is the video from the maiden flight / tribute to the RAF pilots of the Battle of Britain! The first was my initial video with no background sounds. The second is a REMIX with some audio background clips that are period appropriate.

HIGHLY recomment HD and FULL SCREEN.

And here is the much better audio REMIX behind the same video.

Wringing out the Spitfire in a Demo Flight

Had a morning at the club with no one else present so I decided it was time to WRING OUT the spitfire and capture some close in video. I LOVE THIS PLANE. She flies like a beauty, tons of power stock and seriously maneuverable. Of course it is absolutely georgeous in the air and on the ground, a true classic.

What a great plane.

I've always loved this plane (much more so then the popular P51) but have been led to believe that it is much harder to fly!
You make it look sooo easy and smooth, I'm assuming that called SKILL
I need a bigger one since I have a tendency to fly too far out and loose sight of the attitude of the plane about 6 ' would likely do it
Just kidding, that's a fine model!

Thanks Dutch, appreciate the compliment. The plane flies VERY stable, it is maybe not quite a good as the Parkzone P-51 BL in the wind, and it is definately FASTER so things happen quicker, but as far as harder to fly, I would say no. In fact, it's a neck and neck race for me between this and the P-47 for most stable flying PZ Warbird so far! Both are exceptional, Spitty is a bit faster and T-Bolt is maybe a bit more stable FEELING. With the flaps I find the T-Bolt easier to land as you get it slowed down a bit more. The Spitfire is such a beauty flyer it tends to float and you have to get used to setting up your approaches a bit different, with the extra speed you need to carry.

Bottom line, I think this is probably the best plane PZ has put out so far. Flys great, no bad characteristics and looks, well, amazing.

I will say one thing though, the camo paint scheme can be VERY effective! It is MUCH harder to see in the air than the P-47. You need to really maintain awareness to keep orientation, and it dissappears when flown down low against the trees during less than bright, sunny conditions. (Flew it the other evening and was landing left to right with the trees as the be back drop and to be honest I was simply flying the two yellow stripes on the front of the wings for most of the approach, couldn't see a bit of the plane!)

Take care, and keep on flying my friend!

Well as a bit of an update, I have put a single washer (which had to be ground down to fit) under the back screws of the retracts to give them a slighterly greater forward rake and it has helped out with ground handling and landings at the grass field where I fly. If I have a tail wind during TAXI I notice it still wants to lift the tail up and nose me over, but landings are much better now, virtually never a nose over.

Nice easy little mod that helps out.

Thanks Catfish, you are way too kind! I really enjoy flying all RC planes, and probably this one more than others. I am just getting into the video editting stuff and finding it to be MOST entertaining. I have a ton more video footage in the can waiting to get editted but right now I still find a bit of time to get out flying before the snow flys so figure I should use it.

Thanks again for the awesome and kind words!
