Flyzone Focke-Wulf Fw 190 maiden
Today I maidened my Flyzone Focke-Wulf Fw 190 44.5" Rx-R from Tower Hobbies.
Very very docile, fun to cruise.
The kit quality and the flight characteristics are almost the same as Parkzone Bf-109G, IMHO. As the uppersurface painting of the Fw 190 is lighter than of PZ Bf-109G, it is easier to keep orientations.
Great in the air.
The scale details are also good: you may find the instrumental board and the control stick in the cockpit (pilot figure not included).
Area: 22.5 sq. dm
ESC: CC TB36 (optional) w. XT-60
Battery: Turnigy 3S1800mAh 30-40C Li-Poly w. XT-60
Function: aileron, elevator, rudder, throttle, flap, retractable landing gear
Rx: Spektrum AR600 with three servo lead extensions
motor: stock outrunner BL
As the stock motor and the stock three-blade prop pulled 24 amps static, I replaced the stock 30A ESC with CC TB36. Now the stock motor and the stock prop pulls 30 amps static.
15g lead is attached to the tail for the factory recommended C.G., 76mm from the wing leading edge.
I set the servo speed for retractable gear to 7s and 2mm down elevator compensation for down flap with my DX8.
Our club fellows took some pics and vid.
*For gentle cruising flight, APC 10x6E two-blade prop is not so bad. The prop pulls 24 amps static and relaxed six minutes flight (60% to 70% throttle) with some loops, roles, and inverted flight is OK. With Rhino 3S2150mAh30C pack, the flight time comes seven to eight minutes. As the Rhino battery is slightly long for the battery compartment, I removed some foam at the bottom of fuse and attached thin plastic plate. Check the PDF below.
*APC 11x5.5E two-blade prop is also recommended: it pulls 28 amps static and five minutes flight might be OK with 1800mAh pack.
*Check the motor mount and the firewall after several flights. As the firewall of my Fw190 came loose, I applied some drops of medium CA to the ply/foam seam.
*As the canopy was lightly glued to the fuse, I detached and re-glued it.
*After several flights, the under portion of the rudder hinge was teared. I repaired the hinge with small amount of low-temp hot melt glue. It works well on the foam.
