Canard Kits

Are there any good Canard ARF or kits on the market?

I don't think there is at the moment.

There was a Long EZ for an IC engine, (there was a thread on electric conversion, but I don't think the model is available now, not sure on who the manufacturer was.

Graupner did an electric canard called the Canary, may still do, not sure.

There are always the Jets, they have more of a delta wing and small canards.

The alternative is the Foamies (Scratchbuild) forum, plenty in there but that means building your own.

Raidentech still offers one of the .46 size Long-EZ ARFs for glow and they have been converted to electric:

If they really have it in stock as shown, it looks like a bargain for 89 bucks.

Nitroplanes (same parent company as Raidentech) no longer has the same Long-EZ as shown above, but they still show the push pull Defiant in stock:

Big and a little expensive.

Hobbies for Less appears to still have in stock the Richmodel Long-EZ380 electric ARF that used to be available lots of places, but not so available, now.:

There is a foam electric Long-EZ that is sold in several places. Hobby King is out at the moment, but here is another place that stocks it.

There is another company that sells it for less without the power system, but I do not remember how...some seaching ought to turn it up.

Non scale canard ARFs have never been very common and there seem to be none these days, except for the new R/C controlled kites in dacron and carbon fiber.

I think I will just get a conventional kit redesign it as a canard. I want to build a twin electric anyway so that’s probably the fastest way to get what I want. I don’t want a scale foam model for this project.

I may not searching for copies and variations of the Rutan Long-EZ and other like designs, but I would like to build a few more canard types. I did make a glider that more or less has the wing configuration of the Long-EZ and much to my surprise it was nose heavy without adding any nose weight. I was thinking the large wing on the back would make it tail heavy. I shorten the 1/2" thick foam profile style fuselage an inch and added some short wing tip rudders and then it started to fly like I had come very close to the best COG for the design. May still be a tiny bit nose heavy. Has me thinking many of the delta wing designs could have a Long-EZ style body added with a canard wing to make some slow flying canard designs. Interesting options and a good way to hide the battery and other parts better.
