no worries.. I just dont want you getting confused.. A higer kv motor on 2 cells might be a good option for loosing some weight...

What I plan to do is cut off my wings next to the fuse.
Then make new wings that are more circular when viewed from above or below.
I will also try a straight hinge line. I think it will catch the air instead of letting the air slide off at an angle. Mine is only a 20" and I'll make the elevons 4".
I think what is happening with the angled elevons is this. When deflected up air slides off toward the rudder but less downward force is applied to the tail of the aircraft. When they are lowered, the air is deflected back INTO the direction the plane is going which traps it and provide more up force to the tail of the aircraft.
I think a straight hinge line will work. Plus in my case, I can get a better angle on my control horn to control wire from the servo. I can make those angles all 90 degrees...
Now I just need to find time to cut up my plane and glue on new panels.

Dave, I like the Circle W name. It is what you came up with and fits the design well. So now I'll call it a circle W also :-)
I just need to peel off my sticker on the plane and replace it with Circle W.
Do you have a logo sketched up for it?

Those are really nice logos!

If I may suggest, either;

- The orange circle behind the 'W'
- The circle the same color as the 'W' blue
- The circle and 'W' intersect, so the tips of the 'W' are below the circle and the bottom 'v's are above the orange circle.
- The 'W' is within the circle and rounded in shape using the circle sides as the sides of the 'W'

Just some thoughts...hope you don't mind. If not they are great as they are!!

The logos were drawn in sketchup so I will upload the file then you can play with them and do some improvements
Ive also been working on getting the shape to a better visible circle as viewed
sketchup files in the zips...do use sketchup it can be tile printed directly from there, and scaled to any size with a few clicks

I decided to make a foamboard version at 20" using the techniques from here.

Its a simple build using foam board with the paper left on... only problem the thing as seen here weighs in at 5oz with no gear..my previous 3mm build weighed 4 3/4oz but was 1.1sqft larger in area....
Never mind its a high speed build and Ive plenty of the paper covered material not being used..

In the above sketchup drawing of the 24 " plane, how much more wing area did it give you?

I'm working on yet another design, like a next generation W. Simple straight elevons rectangular shaped which changes the back end of the plane.
I made the outer panels wider so when they are bent up the front will appear more round.
Here is the flat pattern. The tail will be similar.
For the angles I was thinking 90 center section for ease of motor mounting, 120 outer panels to center which will give 15 degree diehedral on outer panels.
Question: How do I measure an area in sketchup? My rough calculation puts it at 4.46 sq ft but I want an accurate reading. I can't figure out how to measure an area in skecthup.
I figure the Cg would be about 27% to 28% of the 24" dimension or 6.48" to 6.72" back from leading edge.

The reshaped 24 only got about 0.1sqft area increase.. to build up to the heart area I needed another 1.1sqft ..this means a 26.5 circle size

the reshape was not quite accurate ..at the front and rear of the fuzz there needs to be about 3/8-1/2 taken off and re-arced to the start of the fold up section .. I wont redraw, its an easy chop by eye to get a rounded view.. you can see where its out on the pics of 20 incher Ive made..

sketchup area..... hold the ctrl key..select all the areas with the left mouse button.. now right click on a surface and select the area on selection option..
hint ...it helps if you are showing sizes in "decimal ft".. then you get a sqft area result

My calculations were good. Sketchup said 4.4674842 sq ft.
Excellent. Now if I can build it to about 14-15 ounces AUW it would be a real floater.
Now, to find time to build it :-(

My foam board build is turning into a very heavy lump... due to a good quality board that is heavier than the $tree stuff

would I recommend building with the paper on... not ever
The AUW is 12 1/2oz ..I had to have wheels and a big battery just to get the weight forward for the cog
wing loading 5.7ozsqft ...not exactly ideal...

For how I like flying, this weight will make the model a fast flier.. still I will give it a go tomorrow

Bin it is correct.... over weight and a c*** flier.. totaly poor when I compared it against any of the others..
It did fly but poor is not a strong enough verdict..

dont ever use the paper covered foam, better to tape cover, as thats much lighter,
and better to add KF steps they really do make a model better

The only good from this is that it used larger elevons, these worked better....

this ones good..AUW is 9.675 with a 500 lipo.. thats 2.8ozsqft..
I do need to get its COG sorted.. I went with the usuall 28% (for the hearts) then 31% but that is still too far forward and now its back at 33% for the next flight
The Axi shown is now swapped for a Blue Wonder and the AUW with a 500 3 cell is 9.675oz for a loading of 2.8ozsqft..

later its getting all lit up...with colored and UV led's so the weight will go up a bit..

Ive been having a fly messing with battery positions to find the best COG...and its now fine..ive got the COG ok , so it loops rolls and flairs out good enough.. but I am getting severe glitching so will have to swap out bits to find the problem
