Tonight I wanted to put SOMETHING on the bottom to protect it while sliding.
SO I came up with another idea.
Get THIS !
I used some Clear plastic sheeting that is from your Printer.
The film used to print OVERHEADS !
I used rubbing alcohol to moisten the Foam and now I'm attempting to BOND the film
to the foam with the GG glue by means of the water in the Alcohol to activate it.
It's all taped down and HOPEFULLY curing as I write.
Yeah yeah I coulda used 3M77 but I hate all that overspray.
Time will tell.

ttroadster: Thanks for that sourcing ! Good Find and insight.
I have an idea that it is a HMW plastic tape like I've found at Woodworking suppliers.
It's used for Saw Fences to make them SLIDE the wood easier.
I found a place that distributes several different thickness and widths.
I've used THAT on my foamys for quite sometime now.
I call it SlickStuff and sell what I have on my site.
SO WHY didnt I want to use it on this bird ?
Because it's a bit pricey and I havent painted it yet.
I simply wanted something to protect the foam for the maiden.
ALSO: in the F-15 thread I've placed a parts cutting layout for scratch builders.
It's about the most efficient use of the foam that I can come up with.

Oh and it's RAINING today ! :-(
It's been raing since around 2 last PM.
Apparently a whole slug of rain is coming in off the coast today.

Try this stuff: http://www.laminatorwarehouse.com/laminating_film.shtml ; the 1.7 mil CP. It goes on with covering iron at about 250*, takes paint, and won't come off. It's light weight and cheap too. Great for covering foamies, i use it on combat planes.

sailorJerry: I have thier CLICK but I havent ordered any yet due to the two limitation.
I guess I gotta try it regardless of price/qty ... one of these days :-)
Ya know my home on the west coast is FOR SALE and I will be moving to Indy
when/IF it ever gets sold.

YF-22 with Master Airscrew 10x7x3 prop
Did some testing today with the 3- blade prop. There is good and there is not so good. The good is there is an increase in thrust with my Scorpion 3026-10 (980kv) motor at 4s. I would guess about a 1/2 pound based on flight performance. Also, the plane looks slick with the 3 blade. Now the not so good. I neglected to consider that at 14000 rpm a 2 blade generates a frequency of 28,000 cycles per minute. A 3 blade generates 42,000 cycles per minute. With the resonating chamber of the foam box it is as piercing as any EDF I've been around. The soccer field I use is ajacent to a horse facility so I try to be a good neighbor. The three bladed prop will only be used at open flying fields. It definitely will draw a lot of attention.

If you ever get moved, you'll have to come fly with our little group (not an official club, just a bunch of foam junkies).

I've just finished reading thru your thread and really like your YF-22. I love the look of the plane and yours flies really great. If I build one it will be my first prop jet. I have built and flown lots of trainers and the like, but nothing this big and no jets.
Would this motor work?
|Sep 17, 2011, 05:56 PM|
Well IT seems as though it should work but ...
read the specs on that motor, I doesn't even have ball bearings, it has Bushings like the old DC motors !
T's gotta why ( I think) they call it a Donkey, ya know ? "-)
The price is certainly right but you really KNOW what your getting with this one.
For a budget flyer it is probably OK
SPoz you could get a couple of these for the price of others.
Hey, get one and report back. I'd like to have an honest appraisal.

Sun's out ... no wind either, 8 miles later ...
We have LIFT OFF !!!!
The YF-22 got off the ground in a good way today.
It was off of rather ruff grass but with a few surface wiggles it was OFF !
I got several passes with Loops and Rolls !
All the time , however, the Bottom plastic sheet that I'd mentioned B4
was FLAPPING underneath the Fuse. Really nasty sounding too :-(
It must have come loose at the LE during Take off.
I would have thought that the REST of it would just PART COMPANY, but NOOOO !
It was flapping from the LE to the "Step" , a big piece of plastic !
Still, Landing was easily controllable and slow.
So I have another Success for Otto to CHALK UP !
Wooo whoo ! ! !
The very next thing was to toast a WHOLE can of H2O light yellow paint on it !
Next comes a few Camo spots and minor fiddling.
I may experiment with MORE power as I can switch around and use 3,4,5,6 cells.
By mix and matching some of my 3000mah 2 and 3 cell paks.

Thanks , guys !
I may have to resurrect my Hat Cam - a littel DVR taped to my hat bill !
It took a lot longer than advertised for that H2o paint to dry ! :-(
I've re-coated the Bottom with 2 part EPOXY !
When it sets I will add some of my super slick tape.
