I think the 1374 watt option will result in a heavy ready-to-fly model because of large ESC and batteries requirements.

Are you going to stick with your 4S setup?

My batteries arrived this morning so will test fly in the coming week - most likely Saturday if the weather permits.

What is the max speed achieved on the edf version? What power system was used (motor/fan combo, battery size and capacity)? Been looking at this one, but only if it's possible to get serious speed from it (140 +mph).

Careful with those double ended servo links. I had one back out and crashed on takeoff. Those will unscrew when they vibrate. I soldered one end to prevent this.

I successfully maiden my ME-163 today.
I got a friend to hand launch it. Very gentle sag but she was away!
Beautiful and precise feel to the model.
Lots of float on landing!
3mm reflex is perfect. CoG at 93mm. 25-30° launch angle. Good strong throw. CS10 sounds great and so quiet. Glides for a long time thanks to smooth aerodynamics. Video coming.

Great! If possible please post a pic of your battery placement - what lipos did you end up using? Did you stick w/ 2100kV, or 2300kV?. Can't wait for the video (to see AND hear it), might have to get one after all, the HK Komet is great but I'd like a red one, too, and 3mm reflex sounds MUCH more reasonable for speed than the 8mm on the HK :-)

I stuck with the 2100Kv motor on 5S - it's almost equivalent to a 2800Kv on 4S.

I used a 2200mah 3S and a 2200mah 2S 45C batteries in serial - one on each side of the thrust tube with the ESC on the same side as the lighter battery.

It really requires very little reflex which shows good wing design. I dialled in a little up trim just before hand launch and ended up dialling it all back out again with a little down trim required in the end.

The sound is good though the intake is probably still not the most ideal shape. The stock shape is a little "square".

My friend launched it for me over some long grass just in case there wasn't enough thrust but it was okay as you can see. 650W peak thrust in the first 10 seconds is enough to get it out okay!

Most of the flying was at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle as I was just enjoying sailing around. The landing was all sailing - no throttle - including downwind leg, turn and landing.

Oh yes, I also did a scale position/size flaps mod and tested them out during the flight and the ME-163 ballooned up a little - the above video does not have this.
I had no elevator mixed in to offset this but will do so for the next flight.
The flaps are located just behind the CoG and run the length of the inboard wing up to where the elevons start. Full deflection they are about 45°.
I think the will come in handy once trimmed out as you can see how floaty the model is coming in for landing.

Very nice! Seems like a really slippery airfraime. How's the top speed at WOT, would it run appreciably faster than the the passes in the video? Congrats to the safe launch (good throw, it must be said!) and greased landing

It's not terribly fast at WOT. Probably around 130-140kph. It is slippery though and doesn't need WOT to keep the speed up.

Yes COG is measured from where the front of the wing root attaches to the fuselage.

I had two spare triangular "T-stoff" decals which I positioned at 95mm.
My balance point is 2mm in front of that.

Also for hi rates I used 7mm throws for elevator and 5-6mm for ailerons with 25 and 35% expo respectively.

Lo rates were 80% of these with 35 and 45% expo but I didn't try it and probably won't as high rates were perfect for my style of flying!

Having a hard time with the CG. First I tried 2- 2s 35c 4200mAh, way nose heavy.
Next 2- 2s 35c 2650mAh all the way back. still nose heavy. I moved the motor back 1 3/4' Still won't balance! It's around 90mm now. I guess my Sapac Black tornado EDF unit is way heavy. Weight with the 4s 2650mAh is 1180g 2.9 lbs. I'll just try flying like it is tomorrow. Will get video
