2012 FPV AIR RACE NATIONALS!!!

Hi All,

Ive decided to put on a FPV air racing event this comming spring. I am currently looking into a location (private field), sponsorship and news coverage.

Im hoping for at least $2000 in prizes, possibably more

The website is currently under development and before i spend a bunch of time in development, i wanted to ask all of you, what things you would like to see on the website. For example, forum, registured pilot count, etc...

Obviously there will be more information in regards to rules, dates and locations but i just wanted to get it out there.

Those seem really close together. I think only a skywalker could manage that- a zeph might be too fast.

Of course they will be 50-100 yards apart.. Im going to try and go out today and see what kind of distance is needed.. When looking at the cow video, it seems like the real course will actually take up at least 100x100yard field

Haha, okay, glad that isn't the actual course. Unless we're flying hexes. But you try inverted first.

Will it be mixed entries? Like could a heli or multi enter with the airplanes? Will there be size classes?

It should be good for some carnage that is for sure!

There will be at least classes for multi, fixed and helicopter.. depending on how many will be flying and what, will depend on what kind of classes are determined.

For fixed wing, there will be at least 3 classes. one for "Skywalker like", one for "Wing like" and one unlimited class, where every fixed wing can compete.

It would be cool if Red Bull would sponsor it. We are currently talking

I bet they have some cooler looking pylons.

I'm thinking you might have to combine the heli and multirotor due to participation, but you never know.

Do you know if there will be a prize purse? Money always draws more folks out to a meet. What about other FPV vendor sponsors?

I don't know about that inverted part...

What about stabilization? Will that be allowed? On fixed wings it might give a competitive edge, similar in both multis and helis.

Sometime within the last few months someone posted videos from their own red bull
style races. They used some tall beach flags and a set of powerline poles (had to
stay below the wires). Unfortunately I'm unable to find the vids or the thread
anywhere. The lessons to be learned from that though was the course needs
to be big, the pylons high with lots of spacing, and forget about trying to
cut ribbons with your wingtip. A tiny bit of wind makes it impossible for
any kind of precision.
