Build Log
UH1-B 600 scale Huey

Will be building the UH1-B using the HK 600

I also have a UH1-N 450 size and a MD500E 450 so this is my first big build
The mechanics arrived yesterday and still waiting on the fuselage which is in transit and should arrive next week
The flymentor is a great cheap back up incase of dumb thumb

HK600 build

Almost all done head and tail stripped and greased/ locktighted
Motor and servos installed
last of the electronics to fit when battery and UBEC arrive tommorow

Comments and tips always welcome

Update

All the electrics fitted and tested
But still waiting for the body kit to arrive as it has the 15 tooth pinion with it
certainly alot nicer working on bigger bolts and nuts after the small 450 sizes

Check the tail rotor assembly good for any play and I would change the front tail rotor drive gear unless you want it to fail in the air , mine did on my HK-600. Also I don't know as I would trust a bird this big to a $9.00 gyro , these things can get pretty evil when they go out of control they're not like a 450 size heli parts and pieces fly alot farther and hit alot harder.

Thanks Cap feed back welcome

Yes I read all about the tail drive problems
double checked all the fault areas on mine when i assembeled it and didnt find any of the stated problems ( maybe i got a gord one ) but did CA glue around the tail drive gear as per some one elses precaution
I didnt even have a problem with my flybar cage
the Gyro I have found that GA250 is way better than the 401 in HH mode
this is for scale not 3d and know that a couple of others have this mounted on there HK600 with same servo and have had no problems

Found that one out when my Chaos 600 decided it would rather fly on its own instead of listening to me. Got a nice sized hole in the running board panel of my wife's Explorer from where it hit.

Yes they are a very big intimading bird thats for sure and glad I have a big sports ground only 2 streets away to fly it
may have to change my car to transport it tho

was looking at the Chaos 600 & the UH1-N fusealage from another company but after almost 3 weeks of waiting for a question on the supply of the fuselage I gave up and went for the HK600 and the UH1-B from centruy-rc

That is the very reason I fly at the 1300 acre AMA Headquarters with no innocent victims to wound. I once lost a FG blade off of one of my 450 size helis and stuck it through the door panel of a 1978 Chevy pickup truck , that was the end of backyard flying for me. Be safe and look out for others , oh and enjoy the hobby.

Was flying the 450 pro in the md500 one day and the tail rotor snapped in half never did find the half rotor lol
managed to get it back on the ground in one piece but rotor shaft and tail boom bent

Where I live there is no association or flying grounds so yes the area I fly i always make sure there is no one else around
enjoying this hobby got started at xmas with a we honeybee v2
now have 4-450s (one is my sons) honeybee and now the 600

Like the scale flying but son (14) wants to get into the 3d (thats when he gets a job and buy his own parts

I was at the flying field with the club when it happened. It drifted back from the runway and went into the parking lot. Wish there was some sort of barrier, but I am told that it is in the works.

You might think of trying "Bob Dively's Liquid Masking Film" http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXC100&P=0 , I've used it on many project over the years and found it is the best thing to use when you need sharp paint lines.

Here is a link to a build I did using it on a 400 size SeaRanger TH-57C , I think it is around post #12 when the masking film startes. It is very easy to use and can be sprayed or brushed on , I think I used about 3/4 of a 4oz bottle on the SeaRanger project.http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1265015

Yes, I have found Diveley's masking film to be a must have in painting detailed logos etc on a scale project.
