Way to go Eddy .... I wondered if you were still working on this project . Looks like it needs a little fine tuning yet ..but it is in the air and attempting hover and that is just an awsome feat !!!! Keep going and keep the vids coming ....

That was awesome! Way to go. Looked more controllable than I thought it would be for a first landing. Just a matter of doing it a few more times to get used to the how it behaves.

Sounds great on the tether. Looks like the hover is solid.

Looked like the Sepulveda basin flying field. About 20 minutes away from me. Wouldn't mind seeing that bird in person if you're able to give this forum a buzz first before going out again.

Well done Eddy.

What gyro system(if any) have you used Eddy? It looks like it really needs one or if it has one needs tuning?

Yeah for a first go it looked promising, there is a stabilization system in it, this video is actually over a year old the gains have been dialed in so the wing rocking has been stabilized also, this is a very small area we are hovering in and gets turbulent fast also at twice the height it does not get affected by the ground effect but is to hard to catch if it moves from side to side to much. That was Sepulveda

When do you think she will be ready for another try?

How much does it weigh ready to fly?

Eddy,
What did you end up with for EDF system?
Motor/Fan? What is the power consumed? AUW of the Harrier?
I am in awe at you accomplishments! Just amazing...

It weighs 17.5 pounds with a 14 cell 60 volt Thunder Power battery, a jeti 220amp esc and a home made motor and fan.
I am going to do a few more outings to get the flap elevator trim sorted out, so it flies straight and level as it slows down then I will try another transition. Could be a month or or so depending on getting time off work to do the flights.

I was contemplating making my second attempt at Harrier (1/8th scale) electric to really cut down on the costs of the batteries esc motor etc. After much thought it all came down to it being better to spend more money on all of this new equipment so that it contributed directly to this larger version Harrier.

Great to see you are still working on it -- I was blown away by that turbofan of yours years ago.
Be sure to post vids early and often.

Can yours stay in the air longer than a pure EDF version could or are EDF and turbine flight times about the same now?

Thanks Illini_Rob

Here a short ground take off video
AV-8 Harrier 1/6th Scale RC Ground take off.avi (0 min 8 sec)

RCvertt The turbo fan version will be good for a 6 or 7 minute flight, the electric is good for about 1 minute

Cool vid! Looks like it has plenty of thrust.

Those are respectable flight numbers for this type of aircraft.
