brushed power system for a 40sized profile

ive got like 5 6-cell packs of 1700nicads
how many cells would I need to power a 40sized profile with these nicads and a brushed power system?

what kind of prop, gearbox and ESC would I need aswell?

Hi

Are those 4/5 SC, or the full size Sub C cells?

you will only get 4min flights with good power from those 1700mAh cells

I would reccomend a Hacker B40 10L 4,4:1 14x7 on 12cells.

or split the cells and make 10cell packs, and run a B40 8L 4,4:1 13x6,5 or 14x7. I use that setup in my diablotin mini super.

it would pull a profile very well... use contest balsa, and buldt light, you will easily reach down to 3,5lb

Brushed motors

Try a twin-600 on a 3:1 gearbox, or twin 13-turn quad (or something close) on a 5:1 gearbox (twin means two motors in the same gearbox), and try 11x6 electric prop.

Here’s a “What works list” for an economical way to fly a 40ish plane on 12 cells/ two RC Car “Six Packs” (about 33 amps, 6 minutes plus duration w/2000s):

Jeti 35 (350) ESC – 12 cells & BEC:

Propeller APC “E” 13x10:

Trinity Maxx Mild (not the Wild!):

When brushes are needed do this,
Brush upgrade to 5x5:

Gearbox -- 3.5:1:

Great Planes Gearbox:
Pinion required – 13T 48 pitch

Gearbox:

Batteries:

Always best to buy Sanyo you can see:

Something cheap like this might work; I flew an E-Maxx boxed set of 2000 packs that were supposed to be Sanyo, they flew like Duratrax Sanyos:

I’ve flown the red, white, and blue plane below with the above; Global’s 56” American Flyer a heavy .40 ARF. The other are my other 40 ARF conversions, see my gallery: http://rcgroups.com/gallery/showgall...stype=2&si=jrb

How about the Dewalt 14.4V or 18V motors? They are cheap and powerful altough a bit heavy. An MEC Superbox or a ModelAirtech belt drive on the front....
