Question
Slope soaring near Portsmouth, NH

I am new to the area and I'm hoping someone knows where a good slope soaring site is near Portsmouth, NH. I noticed Scammon farm, but it can't be used until late October (after harvests). Any other suggestions?

I don't know if an hour away is what you consider close, but there's some good slope soaring in Portland, ME when the wind is right.

Suggest you also contact dbeach on rc groups, or perhaps these guys:

I'll bet there's something good closer to you, but Deer Island in Winthrop, MA is only a little further than Portland.

Thanks Lincoln. I saw that site in Portland but it is just too far to go since gas is so expensive now. Maybe I'll check it out if I'm in the area.

In New Hampshire, but not near Portsmouth

The only place in NH that I've been and can suggest is the Berry Pasture Trail. See http://www.slopeflyer.com/soaring/ne...lope-site.html

I'm not aware of Scammon Farm, but if you provide details I'll check it out sometime.

I checked out the rules of public use for Scamman farm. Apparently the fields are available to use for just about anything such as XC skiing, sledding and hiking from November to March. It is off of exit 11 on rte 101. Go north off the exit toward Newmarket/Stratham and it is only abotu a mile down the road. You can't miss it. I think you can park in the empty lot next to the Mobil gas station and walk from there (a slight hike but I think it is the only open hill I could find. I can't wait to try it come November!
