HLG competition and discussion thread. SE QLD and Northern NSW

We had our first HLG comp last weekend at the MRSSA field at Harrisville. We all had heap of fun and want to make it a more regular event. I know there was a HLG scene years ago in Brisbane. We are hoping that the more experienced group from those days and all of the new HLG flyers will come and play too. It doesn't matter if you have the latest and greatest HLG plane, it is more about testing yourself against the clock, using your best air reading skills, and having a great day flying with mates, improving skills. This type of flying is becoming very popular around the globe and in other parts of Australia. It is a very pure form of flying, man and his glider using the conditions to make timed flights. We don't have a designated field yet. Hoping to find somewhere central for everyone, maybe in the south of Brisbane to north Gold Coast area, although it would be great to find a few spots to fly so we could have meets at various spots across the whole area.

There are already a few HLG comps in Australia. One at each the Armidale and Jerilderie sailplane events, and a more regular seen down in Melbourne. The Aussie champs are in October; http://www.f3k.com.au/index.php?opti...vent&Itemid=82

Please feel free to post your thoughts and links about all things HLG in here. Lets make it happen.

Eric

Is anyone else keen on getting a one-design(ish) fun fly going on with the cheap Art hobby DLG's? As Tim says:

I think we could look at the binary on hobby king or one of the art hobby models. Great cheap fun.

That was written by Kano......

Or we could do...art hobby DLG...http://www.arthobby.com/index.php?pa...ry=31&item=258
I reckon it's a sweet idea and a cheap way to have a burl at DLG... I've emailed Arthobby to see what the magic number is for shipping...

One design?

Not sure about one design especially if you have to build it.

The blaster 2/3 is probably a better choice as there is already a few of them around?

If cost is consideration...
One of the top sky variants would be a more rewarding build and purchase

Watching on Sunday I couldn't see any obvious model performance difference

Blasters first and second? Same wing design on both models

My 2c

Cheers jeff

Thanks for starting this thread Ezza,

I started a similar thread without realising you had begun this one. So I've closed the other one and let's all get on board here!

I'm with Jeff that there really isn't much difference between 1.5m DLG's. The Topsky and Predator options are great entry level planes that are totally competitive and great to fly.

I'm pretty sure that last weekend everyone had just as much fun no matter what they were flying

How 'bout those that want to buy can get the Top Sky and those on a budget can build their own. Sounds fair ... right Shane S.?

Great work ! I will find some fields. 1 I know that is central is Merrimac high school on the gold coast. The caretaker of the place let David and I winch launch there. . So hand launch will be fine. It's situated behind pacific fair shopping centre so if you have wives , ladies they can go shopping ? Weekends only.
I'm open to a 1 class plane comp too. .
