E-Starter

Well, mine was mostly stock when I got it. (See picture)

Then after a while the white became grey, and fingerprinted because of handling the plane, so I painted the entire thing dark green, and removed the decals as well. Then eventually it became dented and such, and white started showing through the paint on the fuselage, so I painted the fuse Solder Blue (like a greyish blue).

In the mean time of all of the painting I was using bad JST connectors, and the result was the fuse breaking in five places, four of those in the tail, and the cowl cracked in two places and dented in all the places that weren't cracked (after I lost all power).

Now the thing is so heavy that the only batteries that will work are the full AA's from Wal-Mart (1850 MAH). These batteries make the plane FAST. The 720 MAH AAA's that I used to have don't have enough umph.

Just my long and boring story. I may have to get some pictures of the current paint job.

Oh, and after a while my tailwheel got weak, so I took it off. I re-enforced the bottom of the rudder with a peice of balsa, filled in the gap with spackle, and just land on that. It seems strong enough. It is plenty strong to land on grass, but when I land on asphalt, sometimes the bottom two hinges on the rudder try to pull out. Elmer's glue anyone!?

My E-Starter now has well over 75 flights (guesstimation).

B.T.W. I just weighed it and the AUW is 20 and 1/2 oz. 7 oz. of that are batteries. Hm, I may have to make that a 10 Cell AA pack and slap a GWS EPS 400 to the nose! That would make it about 4 oz. heavier!

Chris

The picture is from back in the day. When my plane was beautiful. For a foamie, that is!

One more thing.

The plane (when I first got it) didn't have ailerons. Back then with the 7 cell 720's it weighed a mere 13 oz.!

Now with a 7 cell 1850 pack, as I mentioned, it weighs 7 1/2 oz. more.

You will need CA for some of the parts, another tip is to rough up any smooth surface that you have use with epoxy. my tip is anything that is plastic needs to be scratched up a little with the blade on my Xacto knife.. epoxy is good but also adds weight..

If you have any questions email me...

stab modifacation

Here is a little tip that I did that will add a little more strength to the stabalizer follow the direction per the manual then add a peace of packing tape over the front edge that is a little wider then the medal brace, the tape should cover the top and the bottom of the stab about 3/4 of the way back from the leading edge..

look at the picture to get an idea of the setup!

I used the same testors model master paint for the foam & cowl. I just temporarily attached the cowl to the fuse while painting.

Also, I did not use any CA (except for that nut for the wing screw). Strictly GWS glue for all foam-to-foam connections (overnight to dry), and epoxy for all other connections.. you could use epoxy for everything if you want to build it quickly.

Chris,
I'm assuming (dangerous I know :^) ) that you're talking about standard AA cells, How are you wiring them together?
