Ah ok. It is a scale jet. But I see what you mean.

esc location for cooling

Im strugglin a little with the location of the esc for optimum cooling
Has anyone cut out the vent slits that are located in the nose of the fuse for actual cooling inlet. My thought was to dremel out the slits and have a cheater hole in the fan access hatch monting the esc just under the intake before the fan.
Then dress up the hole in the hatch cover. Any thoughts
Thanks in advance

I had the same dilemma. Eventually I decided to mount mine on a saddle below the fan with a cutout in the fan hatch. The cooling fins will protrude just slightly outside the fuse, providing adequate cooling for negligible drag increase. I'm working on it right now so can post some pics later tonight. I'm sure there's plenty of other ideas out there??

That may be a good solution but im looking for somthing cleaner.
Im thinking that the slits up by the nose if cut out properly will crate a vacume effect pulling air from the cockpit area. You then install a small air scoop at the edf acccess hatch to complete the process.
I have been looking at photos of the (real) vj it looks to me thats what there purpose is for. Just my 2c . Heres the link

Yeap I thought about the same thing (cutting slots in the grills up front) to prevent heat buildup in the battery bay.

I'm running a 90mm Stumax with the thrust tube dia at 70mm so there is plenty of clear space around the exhaust. The high exhaust airflow will create a relative low pressure in the aft fuselage. The low pressure around the exhaust should pull air in through the slots - aft, toward the exhaust. Might not need additional scoops to keep the battery bay cool but the ESC...???

Some pics of my ESC mount made from 1/16 ply.

Needs to be sanded, glued and painted prior to installation.

Didn't get time to cut the fan hatch but you should get the idea.

The mount will be held to the fan with a couple of zip ties wrapped all the way around the fan, and through the cross braces on the "legs". Not too tight, but just enough to hold it in place. The hatch cover will be cut as a close fit to prevent the ESC from moving.

Once the cover is installed there will be very little protruding into the air stream.

I did something very similar on my SAPAC 70mm Viper and it worked great. Hope the results are the same here.

ESC install

Ok guys, Im not a pro or claim to be one. But on the very first viper we got to fly i put the ESC in the fuse. It got to 170 degrease when it was 60 outside!! Then i put i into the inlet air flow with some hole in the ESC. Had over 250 flight on it this way and the ESC never got over 115 with temps outside @ 90+ I will post newer pick on the install soon. Thanks Billy D

Cockpit

Here are a few more pics of the cockpit.
I separated the dash and mounted that on a painted piece of 3mm Balsa.
This was glued in the front of the nose.
The cockpit itself is fitted inside the canopy.

You need to widen the opening inside the fuselage a bit but the end result is OK.
