Project Lead Sled: 3s UM Polecat

- I didn't want to post this until I flew the plane, some said it could not be done. Yes its fast...

The idea behind this project is to see how fast a micro could be pushed on a 3s lipo.

Airframe: Parkzone Ultra Micro Polecat
ESC: Castle Creations Thunderbird 6amp
Battery: Hyperion 3s 180mah
Motor: AEO RC 2100KV 8Gram outrunner
Prop: GWS 4.5x4

AUW: 61.3 Grams

Build is standard, used lite ply for the motor mount... followed this thread to wire up the esc (1N4001 diode) TMASTER 2s Sukhoi setup

All I can say is its fast, I didn't get half a pack through the plane before I got bored in stock form ( I had the gear ready to be installed before I got the plane). All I can say, this is now my favorite micro.

I will get out again and do some Doppler readings with my rc speedo app and get some vids up for someone else to doppler the plane.

I'm feeling mid 60s...

A friend and I built two identical planes, I didn't get any build pictures of the interior, maybe he can chime in and post some up.

Got mine to 54mph on a 5030. It's slower than the 4540 I had on it. video soon of mitsu s soon. His is faster than mine, we can't seem to get a doppler on his. We are trying though.

Just got back from pack number four. Like rx7wee said we clocked the plane at 54.7mph on my rc speedo app. I believe this makes it the fastest micro?

I was not able to get a reading on the 4540 the plane was to quiet. But it is noticeably much much faster. If anyone can get a reading off the video I would appreciate it.

The plane flies awesome, you do have to keep your speed up coming in on landings but it still seems to glide well. Holds speed through corners very well, and tracks like it is on rails. I can't really comment on how the planes slow flight characteristics suffered compared to a stock polecat as I barely flew a pack through the plane in stock trim.

Power wise its amazing, very very addicting. It's like crack, only lasts 5-6min but you keep wanting more!

I believe the plane is hitting mid 60s on the 4540, I guess we will find out once the video is analyzed.

Setup:

CC Thunderbird 6amp esc

C10 AEO 2100kv

Although if I were to do this again I would try an eflite motor:
Eflite Park 180 2200kv

Hyperion 3s 180mah

I would like to try out a 240mah pack
Hyperion 3s 240mah

Next prop to try out will by a 4x4, 5030 is def too slow.

I guess this is why they make different brands and models of everything. I wish I could slow my polecat and Sbach down some and can't even imagine trying to fly the polecat at those speeds. My hat's off to you guys with the super reflexes and hand/eye coordination. I'm trying to find a 6x2 prop for mine.

Hard to say what the gains will be mph wise. I know the eflite motor will be built better than the aeo motor and thus the tighter tolerances will give better performance. It it's also a little higher kv motor so it should spin a prop a little faster.
