Top Model Stinger Replacement

Hey Guys,

For the last couple of years I've been flying a Top Model Stinger. I love this plane to death, and for anyone wanting an introductory hotliner, with a few structural mods this is the go to plane.

That being said my beloved Stinger is starting to show it's age and I need to start thinking about a replacement. This is what I'm after,
*Speed
*The need to fit 3300s type lipos
*The need to be user friendly with regards to Glide performance as I tend to fly this thing at big rugby ovals and if the weather is bad I do need the ability to slow the thing up.

What would you guys recommend. I hear very good things about the Sunracer V3. My only concern is it's speed on landing. That being said this plane looks very promising! Or am I better off getting another Stinger, or is there are more modern equivalent?

I look forward to everyone's thoughts.

All the Best

Danny

I would call the stinger a pylon and the Swift a Pylonliner

For once I agree with Adrian

Go the wasp/swift whatever else its called. Ive had a few stingers, the wasp is an all round better plane to fly, its faster, stronger, cleaner, much higher quality, glides better, and can land slower. I found the wasp while looking for a replacement for my final stinger.

You wont fit 3300's into a wasp (or the sunracer), 3300's must be a squeeze in a stinger!, 2200 4S would be about the limit in the wasp, unless you went 2P, but then itd get a bit heavy anyway.

Another vote for the wasp. Love flying mine.

I have it set up more as a mini hotliner with a hyperion outrunner. I'm using 2200 3s and it gives plently of power/flight time.

The stilleto by top model might be worth a look for more of a pylon machine. I like mine, but its fairly spendy for what it is imo.

Hey Guys,

Many thanks - I'll definately check the wasp out - where can you order it from?

Just out of curiousity is the SimProp Turn Left XXS still around. What is the feedback on this bird. It looks sexy enough. However looks are one thing flying is another.

All the Best

I had a stinger for a couple of weeks.. beautiful plane, great to fly, very fast, easy to land, very aerobatic - loved it! Until I launched one time and the nose disintegrated...
I am about to get another but was wondering what mods you made... Did you strengthen the fus? Any tips appreciated!

Lukey,

Mate sorry for the late reply on Strengthening the stinger. This is what I did,

*Carbon Fibre the whole internal fuselage.
*Replace the plastic bolt with a metal one.
*For the Wing mount - Get rid of the existing structure - Put it with some hardwood and carbon fibre over the top.
*Do the same for the wing dowel.

If you do that your Stinger will last for ages. It's a fantastic plane but structurally it leaves a little bit to be desired. However it's all manageable.

I hope this helps.

Danny
