I have been useing the Kontronics Easy 3000. I don't remember the price but when I was looking around it was fairly priced and I have been useing two of them for a year and a half with no trouble. One of them actually spent four weeks 60' up in a tree. When I finally got it down it was a bit faded but I pluged it in and it is still pumping the amps to my colbalt 4014 in my PJC. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Jim

what do you think of this one

Watt-Age IC-30 ESC, 30 Amp, Brake, BEC-A/C, rated to 30A

or this one

Watt-Age IC-550 Motor Controller w/BEC Splug rated 35a (60peak)

or even

Watt-Age IC-380 30A ESC w/BEC S Conn

has anyone used these and how well did they work?
also what are the differences?

thanks

...i use the wattage ic-30 (high freq) in my 450 turbo/willets zagi. ive had no problems whatsoever. the only thing that i dont like about it is the soft on/off feature that slowly raises the rpm up to speed when floored. it really isnt too big of a deal, however, yesterday i planted it from about 50 ft. and the soft off barely turned the motor off before impact. all in all though, as for performance , its a good esc. along with any of the others mentioned here.

WattaAge IC-380 and -550 are FRAME RATE and are only suitable for use as soft on/off switches. They are also big and heavy by current standards. Beyond that, between overheating motors and killing gearboxes..... well enough said.

The newer WattAge units (IC-30, -15, -5,-2) are high rate and work well (though I've had RF issues with the -30).

My own answer to the question posed at the top of the thread is Kontronik Sun 3000. (The Sun 4001 is a 40A unit, the Easy 3000 is out of production.)

Of US made units, the Castle Creations Pegasus 35 is definitely the best value (though $14 more than the Kontronik Sun 3000), and is smaller and lighter than the Suns (a little). However, the Pegasus doesn't have a brake. If you don't need one, that's no problem.

The GP units (from somewhere in Korea) work well as long as you stay well within their published limits.

As always, too many words.....

I have both the Pegasus 35 ($49) and the Sun 3000 ($35).

I've been pleased with both. If they were the same $$, I'd say go with the Pegasus since it seems to operate more smoothly as you adjust the throttle.

finally picked one

i really wanted to save some bucks and get the watt-age but im glad i asked first. i ended up looking at the castle creations and the kontronics and because of brake went with the kontronics. these should be able to handle the kinds of current i want with my MM setup. any ideas on batteries?? from what i gather the 8cp1600's and up are what i want? where is the cheapest place to buy those from?
thanks for the help on esc's guys/gals
