I just purchased a brand new in retail box 8uap with full flight package and was wondering what the difference is between the super version of the radio.

Still a good radio with RF module (so it can be converted to 2.4Ghz easily)but being that old the battery condition, Tx and Rx would be problematic since it sat for many years.
The current equivalent models would be 8FG and 8FG super, the 8FG has 8 channels and the 8FG super 14.

But they have nothing in common with the older systems.

Actually the radio is PCM. It's the 8UAP. I have done testing on the batteries and for the standard capacity batteries they are in great shape after using my Ace super smart charger.

I just wanted to know if there's a feature difference if any. The 8FG is a whole nother animal all together.

8UAPS has digital trims. Do you have same? If not, that may be a difference.

Yes and they beep when I move them away from center. However old it is it's a feature rich radio and coming from a VG6dr Airtronics this thing is incredible.

So was the price $170 retail boxed..

You'll be happy with it, Futaba PCM Rx are expensive but you can also use FM/PPM with many after market receivers with negative or auto-shift. When you want to go to 2.4Ghz its only a matter of plugging in the module of your choice and still enjoy it

It's funny to me after learning how to fly 15 years ago how far they have come. Honestly I find it hard to imagine you would ever need more than what this radio is capable of.

I know everyone is on the 2.4ghz kick, but spending that much for a radio doesn't make you a better pilot, and in my personal expectations coming from dual rates which used to be cutting edge to this is amazing.

I remember when pilots mixed with the gimbals not radio features..LOL

What Futaba did for the 7, 8, and 9 radios was they started with the plain and then instead of coming out with a new radio they wold upgrade the current one to a super. They usually had a bit more programing and maybe a bit more model memory. Sometimes they would change a knob or something but it was normally just software related. The 8's were very good radios except the pots would dry up and cause wierd surface movements after a bunch-a years.

We've come a long way in the last few years! computer program radio were the real turning point with so many mixes and several models memories. Hard to imagine there was a time when servo reverse was a marketing point
FM and PCM are still very usable if you don't go to large flying events but 2.4Ghz has many advantages doing away with frequency control and those lovely short antenna on the plane or Tx. The radio you have is rich in features and will serve you well, all of my olders radios are still functional while I have worned out several "newer" Transmitters

That's kind of what I thought that it was programming tweaks.

Do you guys now of what benefits are gained converting over to Fasst with this radio?
