Obama administration says health insurance plans must cover birth control for women w

http://news.yahoo.com/insurers-must-...140750830.html

I have three questions on this:

1. What business is it of the administration to tell private insurers anything.

2. What about for men?

3. Why should an elective drug that is not medically necessary for survival be covered? Why should everyone else's rates increase to pay for your CHOICE, particularly when there are cheaper and more effective methods available?

I understand your concerns.
With the tax burden of millions of unplanned pregnancies, I'm all for it. Better to pay a little up front....................

We must except the reality of our situation. Those who would use the handout would cost the most having illegitimate children. It's a cost saving measure.

Actually, we should quit paying for/encouraging the behavior, otherwise the behaviour will continue.

Quit encouraging which behavior, illegitimate children or paying for them?

Both, but mostly those who don't participate in the fun part having to pay for the result.

For me this ranks right up there with covering Viagra for the old folks while increasing MY insurance rates.

If anyone ever wonders why their health insurance premium is going up, this imposed rule is the latest reason.
Quote:
Health insurance plans must cover birth control as preventive care for women, with no copays, the Obama administration said Monday in a decision with far-reaching implications for health care as well as social mores.

The requirement is part of a broad expansion of coverage for women's preventive care under President Barack Obama's health care law. Also to be covered without copays are breast pumps for nursing mothers, an annual "well-woman" physical, screening for the virus that causes cervical cancer and for diabetes during pregnancy, counseling on domestic violence, and other services.

The new requirements will take effect Jan. 1, 2013, in most cases. Over time, they are expected to apply to most employer-based insurance plans, as well as coverage purchased individually.

If it saved money to pay for birth control insurance companies would be tripping over themselves to pay for it. Fact is that women don't just use birth control to keep from having children, they use it to time when they have them.
Insurance company actuaries have determined that they end up paying for birth control and childbirth.

Obama should require the insurance industry to pay 100% for abortions! Think of the money that could be saved on future health care cost, education, social security, etc. with even fewer children running around.

UK folks: are abortions "free" over there?

My problem with it is that it is yet another "unfunded mandate" where government demands (by law) that other people spend money the way that government demands but government doesn't have to pay for it.

The unfunded mandates in our entire system are proving to be a big drag on doing business and are another great example of why government needs to much, much smaller.
