Very Cool! Is that camera/vid transmitter waterproof? Could a smaller FPV LiPo be used to gain back that 1.7ounces?

I really think this might be my next plane....

PAX...

No the camera and Tx are not water proof.. but I have treated each with CorrosionX.. Lots of information her on RCG.

And I'm saving my pennies for an eventual GoPro.

In truth a separate VID TX battery is not needed if you tap into the 3s motor battery. But using a separate battery insures a clean power signal to the Vid TX. And I've found a 460mah 3s for the VID TX is about the smallest I'd trust for a 15-30minute flight.

Cheers..

Went out a bit today to test my retreival Airboat and had an Icon flight
The boat is great but if I want to ride at high speed I need to install a stab to be able to trim the nose. But since its a rescue boat I wont do that , at least for now.
It was calm water but gray and misty so I only had 1 flight today.

I'm interested.. .How are you going to hook it to the Icon A5 for a rescue?
Does it have reverse?
I'm guessing your going to get behind and push the a5....

No reverse, it all depends on how the Icon is in the water.
The nose of the A5 goes well between the floats so I can push from there .
From the back too as long as I go slow I'm shure it will work out..... at least I hope

Rescue Boat

I was inspired with your rescue boat! I'm building one now with a pair of 40 size floats I got for free. I would also like to zip around the pond for some fun and don't want to bury the float tips. Would it work if you angled the traction prop up in the front of the boat so at speed it would lift the back up on plane? I'll try to post pics when i'm done.

I had a nasty incident during my learning curve on the Icon where I was really trying to slow it down before turning final and tip stalled it into the ground.

Has anyone tried some of the solutions for tip stall on the Icon like this one?

(from another forum) --- It also had a nasty tip stalling habit which I was able to correct by "reflexing" (angling up) the ailerons approximately 3 degrees.

Yep, what he said.

I don't think messin' with the ailerons will help when you run out of airspeed and ideas at the same time.

Just leave around 1/4 throttle till you are low and in the flare.

Sounds like a good learning experience though.

Well got a call from a buddy yesterday and he lost his A5 from a cooked ESC.
He lost all power and it went down hard in the water.
HE will repair it but I told him to install a separate BEC even if he doesn't add Flaps at least if the ESC fails he will have power to glide in.
He said no water went to the ESC before this happed and he has been using the 2200 3 cell lipo's and flying 8min not pushing it so the ESC wasn't working hard from what I can see.
