Great esc, just remember that the bec is only good up to 3s. you'll need an external bec for 4s lipos and above. Matt

That's where to Airboss 80amp ESC pulls ahead.. It's designed to work with the torque 4016T/500, and the internal 6v BEC is good up to 6s..

I've also used the castle ice light, and the airboss produces 100watts more, pushing the same motor.

What's the current rating on the internal BEC of the Airboss 80A? Is it 3A, 4A ?

I like the ICE 75/100 since the BEC can handle up to 5A.

I would like it better if they did away with the marketing technobabblespecifications such as "up to 5A" and instead gave a more useful specifications, such as 5A at 3S or less, 4A at 4S."

Sorry, just a pet peave. CC specifications leave something to be desired from a technical specification perspective, but I have several of their ESCs.

I had to go to a BEC on a small sport plane, however, using analog servos, on 3S, because the CC Phoenix ICE 50 couldn't provide a constant 5V in flight (drooped to 4.1 volts).

If servo and radio companies and ESC/BEC manufacturers gave out accurate and useful specifications (such as maximum current under load), I would have been able to figure that out before assemblying the plane. Fortunately, the voltage droop never resulted in an RX brownout.

For your power setups, are you guys using Deans plugs or 4 mm HXT Gold connectors like the ones that come with Gens Ace packs? It seems like the HXT plugs would be a more reliable connection.

The airboss 80amp ESC comes with a Deans plug attached. Most people run Deans out of convenance, but I'm a Power Pole Guy.

I intend to use the 4mm/gens ace connectors, as I think they are rate for a higher current.

Yes, 93 for HXT versus about 60 for Deans I think. They really fit nice and snug and have a lot of contact area compared to Deans so I think I might go for HXT's, I guess Deans have been working for people though. Any other input from anyone?

I don't know what all the current/voltage/amp numbers are but deans work in all my planes. Including my 12S 5000 setup and I've never had a problem.

Also, ZTW makes some pretty nice esc's at a reasonable price. And they are the orgininal mfg for a few other relabled esc's.

Oz and Manta... so both of you are using the 45 powerpoles on 6S because of the 10 AWG, or 'just to be safe'.... or is the 35 enough considering the 200A ceiling?
