You'll probably be fine without it but I agree with JC the plate will spread the force placed on the horn over a much larger surface, much less likely to twist or bend in the balsa with the plate (granted these damages are more associated with crashes and hanger rash), but I'd want the plates or I'd make some myself, easy enough to do

The baseplates are not needed. Scuff the horns, glue them in with epoxy and they will never come out. You will destroy the entire airframe before those horns could ever be pulled out. Fill the slot with 30 minute epoxy, coat the portion of the horn that inserts into the slot (that you have previously scuffed with sandpaper) and insert the horn into the slot. Verify that it is properly alingned and clean up with denatured alcohol and a paper towel.

Just got back from the maiden flight and it was AWESOME!!! I was comfortable with the plane right away which has never happened before The roll rate was insane and i'll be dialing it back a few degrees until i get used to it. It was pretty windy but even so the plane handled great, super precise and the power with the torque was sweeet. This plane will always be in my hanger because it is by far my favorite plane!

That's what I usually do
At the very least, I place the surfaces 'on' their hinges and tape them at neutral and do a test fit on all of the horns.
Typically, they're 'close enough' if you just bottom them out flush, but I've had to adjust one or two ever so slightly.

Is everyone using the torque/airboss combo still using the "Idle-Up" procedure to prevent motor cogging?
Has anyone tried CC's "Cap-Pack" on an Airboss?

Yeah, years of sunset flying helps, but I have lost orientation before...

The older generation flies in the morning, so us 3D guys are forced to fly in the evening when the glow P-40 crowd is asleep. Hehe

Hi Oz

Thanks for the link, as it turned out Aerobertic in Belgium is the store I ordered from and I see they are listed for sales and support in Belgium and the Netherlands but if anyone else is interested they do a good service to the UK.
My main problem was I wanted to use the Torque motor and none of traders in the UK sell them and then I found no one had any 60” Extras in stock so I ordered them from Aerobertics and they landed on the doorstep really fast.

Thanks to all the people who commented about the base plate that did go with the control horns looks like their not needed anymore.

Thank you for Confirming that Chris. I didnt feel it was a big issue.

To any new builders, everything else is the same. If you follow the instructions in the build video on page one, It shows how to sand, align, and install the control horns properly.
