Looks great Doc! I always enjoy your reports.. In order to make it balance With those big packs, you might have to move the ESC to the bottom of the motor box, and mount it on the inside of the former. There's a nice big cooling hole under the covering, that you will need to cut out.

If your running 2800-3300mah 6s packs, it's fine to mount the ESC on the bottom of the motor box in the air flow. The former is sealed to keep air flowing over the battery..

what's your recommendation as far as battery: 5s or 6s, and mAh for the 60" EF Extra Exp ?

I was going to go with 5s (mostly because I already had them), but Chris told me the plane is so bad ass on 6s that it's worth it to buy new batteries. I got some 6s 3850 packs, but I wish I had gone with 3300s.

Im going with the EF recommended motor (which is coming out of my sold 58" Extra) and Hitec servos. I may buy a nano 3300 to see how it balances out. I do have stock of 6S 2650s and 5S packs from 3800 to 4500. So far every EF plane i have had i have had to put the packs right up against the wing tube and in some cases added lead to the tail to get them to balance neutral.

After reading a few threads here seems 6S 3300 is the go with a Xoar 15x7 prop for 3D?

APC not a good choice?

Had a 15x8 on my EF 58" Extra and had great results but never tried the Xoar.

I found that on 6s 3000mah that the 60" really performed nicely in an IMAC/Sport style due to carrying more weight and speed. While the 5s 3000mah made it a little easier to hover and do more 3d type maneuvers due to weight savings.

I actually run both 5s and 6s on my 60" EXP and usually charge a few of each one to take to the field with me so I can mix it up a little. I normally start with the 6s to get my thumbs working and then switch over to 5s to fly some lighter weight maneuvers.

My recommendation is get a couple of each type of battery. You can't go wrong with this plane!

In my experience the Extra likes to be a lot lighter than the Edge.

My Extra is about 5.2 lbs, and it's fantastic. Great speed, energy, wind penetration, precision, and 3D feels just right. I have a heavier battery that I'll try soon and see how that is. We flew my friend's Edge on 6S 2650 at about 5.3 or 5.4 lbs, and it was too floaty. Good power and 3D was good, but it needed more energy. It's much better with 6S 3300.

My friend let me fly his 60" Extra again today... but this time he put the SFG's on it, definately a big difference. Without, 3D is okay and pattern is amazing; but with them, it really comes alive and flies much better IMO. Definately a sweet airplane.

Does EF offer pre-orders? Or do they wait until there in stock?

I think Pre-orders are just for the first batch. after that you have to wait for them to be in stock. Someone clarify if not.
