actually, like with bldc, diameter has as much or more to do with torque than coil impedance or magnet strength. its the main reason outrunners are so much more torquey at low speed than inrunners. the real issue is how efficient is the motor and those with large diameter, powerful magnets, and/or big coils, will not only be stronger motors for a given input (more efficient) but also do so with less heat at maximum.

apparently size does matter.

its also why its hard to make really tiny bldc that perform well. in fact guys in the micro area are convinced tiny pagers are better for a given weight than brushless. as we know at larger scales the reverse is true.

regarding servo drivers im not sure these are fets but from experiments with n20 and bigger i was shocked at how much abuse these little pcbs take when stalling with my finger with a meter in series. even bipolars took a lot before frying.

well i started out intending to swap the 4mm stock pager with 6mm from my junk box that draw less current but have more torque. that plan didnt work out so i ended up just trimming weight. instead of cluttering up this thread with ot baloney i started a new one just for weight reduction:

Hi guys, I am not used to dealing with this small stuff. I have just bought a turnigy 9x radio. What is the smallest receiver that I can use for small servos like this??

Forgot to ask, can you use these small servos in a basic Hobbyking transmitter?

You can use these servos with any receiver. You just need the right plug and polarity (wire orientation).

These servos appear to be back in stock right now, if anyone's looking for them

iirc theunissons tiny dsm2 modules (deltang.com?) are the smallest if you dont mind paying 50 bucks or so ea. for cheap sobs like me here are some from hk almost as small for around 10 bucks:

lowest cost solution by far are the 3ch flysky rx i got for $3 that work with the 9x right out of the box. so no modules to buy. not quite as small as the others though.

The servos plug directly into this Spektrum compatible rcvr and is what I'm using in the Cutlass above in post 119

Gord.

Larger, faster, stronger version of HK-5320?

I just noticed this:
HK-5330 Ultra-Micro Digital Servo 1.9g / 0.04sec / 0.17kg
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ec_0_17kg.html

It looks like a HK-5320 with a longer motor that sticks out.
Specs are more torque and faster than the HK-5320.

The other difference is that they aren't on backorder (yet).
