did you get any feedback from "coach Vicky" ????

very deliberate right foot leadoff, seemed like quite a fast throw, what sort of height did you get ??

Love the hiking boots! Also love how you start with the transmitter out away from you and pull it in during the throw. That trick got me another 20'.

Looking forward to seeing you all again in CO!

Lots of feedback from Vicki - couldn't live without it! She was mainly concerned that I would be camera-concious, but she said I just buckled down and did it. I have no idea how high, but I've had to re-trim all my DLGs. The Legend especially used to be quiet, but has a definite swoosh on launch, now.

They do definitely go higher, although I assure you, I doubt I am a threat to anyone above FL36.

You're never too old. I've been doing an exercise program, never thought for a moment it would help a stiff old coot like me.

Yours, Greg

Howdy! Long time - no see!

The boots are now required for DLG. I can sprain an ankle, otherwise, and my arthritis isn't so intrusive after a long day.

I'll be looking for you in Colorado.

Greg,
I have been trying Jun's footwork pattern lately, and I usually get the same little hop! It is like I cannot pivot on the ball of the left foot and stay upright.

My normal right foot takeoff uses more steps but I think both are about equal on rotation speed. I just need to practice more on the Jun dance.

Your launches have definitely improved! 18-24 months ago, I was saying to myself, "Why doesn't Greg launch any higher?" It looked like something was hurt and you would not push it. The last time you were at Sage, you had a "normal" launch! Much better form and greatly increased height. Keep up the good work!

BP

PS My feet hurt after a dlg session too. Do you find the waffle treads on the hiking boots a hinderance?

Greg - I like the looks of the wind-up, then it appears that your follow through hits a brick wall. Your weight appears to be solidly on the left foot with your right foot nearly stationary on the toe of the boot at and after release. To my mind, it seems to be a deceleration of your hips, and all the other parts follow. Then again, I am wrong so often that I've gotten to be good at it

We haven't seen each other in 6 months so I don't know how you have progressed since then and I am absolutely unqualified to give advice. I am still working on my own lack of consistency in the DLG form. I have a long way to go to have any kind of repeatable form. I do need more Zen!

The waffle treads definitely help. I have compared my foot prints between walking shoes and these boots, and the boots have much better defined footprints. When I pivot, I leave a clean divot with the boots. I've been toying with some sort of cleated shoe, but am not yet willing to buy something I'd only wear for this sport. Cheapskate, I am!

Yours, Greg

Yeah, I can see what you're talking about. It's probably a consequence of trying to get more body rotation - my upper body is still moving through the launch. I wonder if I can be flexible enough to try it differently when we get together tomorrow.

See you there!

Just to show what I don't know, I spent 90 mins today screwing around with launches. 60+ launches and no two were consistent. At one time I had to put the plane away and re-learn the dance steps. Sheesh, way tooo much thinking!

Going to definitely work for more Zen tomorrow. Is that akin to planning to be spontaneous?

Lookin real smooth and efficient Greg , keep it up
Gonna be a blast at bsoc!
I wish I could do a 3-step launch, but that would require re learning all the bad habits I've worked so hard to ingrain.
I don't know how many steps I take,or what foot I start with-honestly I don't care too much bout that, but I really try to put all the energy I can and get the plane goin right to the target

Looking good Greg!

In the last one particularly, you take your first step perpendicular to the rest (to the right). It may help to point your toes more in the direction you intend throwing from the beginning and that first step and momentum will be in the direction you are launching.

But then, I'm not the highest launcher!

Jun teaches that 45 degree "right foot stepout" technique as a way of getting the plane up off the ground and behind you at the beginning... more initial windup. Then the next 3 steps are the spin in the intended launch direction. But nobody can do it like Jun...
