Mid-Air at Duxford Airshow in England

Just got word there was a mid-air with a P-51 Big Beautiful Doll and a Skyraider at the Duxford Airshow. The Skyraider landed mising half a right wing but the P-51 crashed but the pilot bailed out

We've lost Liberty Belle and Big Beautiful Doll in the matter of a month. Very sad.

Not to mention when they lost that P-38 at Duxford also, that place is bad luck.

Sohh glad the guys got down safely.

It's good to remember that these things happened in combat situations too, even with pilots who were trained to avoid them. Looks like there might have been a minute change in trajectory or a moment of confused co-ordination to cause this.

BTW, I read that B.B.D. was a Commonwealth built P-51.

My theory, FWIW:
Performing like some of these pilots are pushing themselves to do, well, I think it involves feelings of controlled desperation. That's fertile ground for mistakes. And I think each year, the ante' goes up.
