Tom,

I'm not a big fan of the 9g servo. They always seemed "weak" to me. I found a few places that may help in your decision.

Te

I agree, but I was hoping you'd talk me into it. I'll use a standard size servo.

I finished the cap strips on the top surface and completed the TE using the method Norm suggested. I did not try for a sharp edge, just a straight, sturdy one. It's .1" thick at the tip.

Photos below are TE before cap strips and TE after but without sanding or any finishing.

Left Panel Structure Complete

Structure is complete. I'll do the aileron servo and rear wing bolt later. The panel is 2.75 sq ft and weighs 8.25 oz. That's 3 oz per sq ft. Well under my weight budget so I should still be OK when it's covered.

Right Panel

Made progress last night. I have to keep checking to make sure I'm not building two left wings. Been there done that.

The camera has a LOT of radial distortion.

Second fitting

I rolled the leading edge this morning and added the top sheet. There's lots of work remaining on the right panel, but I needed to check the mounting hardware and the center line (and I wanted to see how it looks). It all works and the center line (CG) is where it should be.

I'll complete the right panel and start on the stabilizer. Stab doesn't have to be asym but it will look cooler if it is. Also helps the cg a bit.

Right panel structure is complete. Have to finish sanding and will install conduit tubes for future use.

Check Point

Weighed and assembled the completed components. Total weight is 38 ounces against a budget of 41 ounces. Not bad, but I will go a little over with covering and landing skids.

The CG still looks good.

Norms TE closures extended the TE by 1/2 inch. You can see that makes the pod and center section short. Should be able to fix it with some balsa TE stock.

Obstacles

I had to take a work break and the wife moved me out of the den. But, I did get a start on the stabilizer.

Also, I checked in to the sub min servos and found some digital, metal gear, bb units. They are pricey but probably worth it.

Very nice Tom and glad to see you are staying close to your budget weight.

It's great to watch your plane coming together.

Thanks. It's going to be a busy week but I hope to grab some more time for construction.

Progress - but slow

Too many distractions. I did get the medium hard sheet on to complete the LE 'D' shape. It's very strong for an 8% section.

I'll complete the rudder next so I can work out the rudder mount before I cover the stab center section.

Vertical Stabilizer

I made three sets of ribs for the horizontal stabilizer. The third set is for the vertical stabilizer. That makes layout and construction easy - just shorten the rib spacing.

So, it's on the building board, but, for now, domestic chores are calling.

Fin

Working on it when I can catch a little time. Finished the spar web and added the LE 'D' section. Now for the fairing skirt and the cap strips.

Our new grant is funded on Oct first so I hope to have the Asym in the air shortly after that, maybe by the 15th.
