Thanks! Happy to be at RCGroups. Still a bit overwhelmed by the size of this forum!

I did try cutting down the fins, and it didn't help. In my experience, the more sweep a wing has, the less pitchy and better it handles.

welcome to the Forum . Have you tried angling the endplates outward on the pitchy ones ? You may want to check out springers OSW ( One Sheet Wing ) . It is out of 1 sheet of DT foam 30" span , he had some pitch problems with the early version i believe but ive built it per plans and it flys great

Welcome to RC Groups. You'll like it here - it's a wonderland full of great folks with lots of expertise.

My "schraut5" is all glued up and ready for electronics. I"ll start with stock tips and see what happens.

Thanks again for sharing the design.

Finally got my Schraut5 wing ready to maiden this afternoon. Of course I picked the hottest day of the year so far in Chicago, but no one ever accused me of being a genius.

It's not perfectly true to the original in that I made it a pusher, but the lines are spot on. With a 1500 KV Blue Wonder, 18A ESC, 8g Emax servos and a 1300 3S it weighs 10.1 oz and pulls 8 amps with a 7035 prop. I don't really care how fast it is - for my first flight with a flying wing I'm just hoping for stability and some grins. This day can't go fast enough.

Awesome! Love the design! Did you fly it yet? If so, how was it?

No... Rats! Too windy for a maiden, especially with a type of plane I've never flown. My next chance won't be for a few days. Sigh. The heat and wind are supposed to hang around for a week or more, but there's gotta be a break in there somewhere.

I did put a wattmeter on it and it works out to 152 watts per pound, so it ought to be lively enough.

I was just looking at your picture, how far up did you move the motor to get the CoG correct?

What do you mean by 'pitchy'?

If it's that it's very touchy on elevator then the usual cure is the reduce throw, add exponential.. or it could indicate that the CG is too far back. Tailless models are almost always very sensitive to CG position.

By "pitchy" I was trying to refer to the very sensitive elevator control, even with over 60% on exponential! At more than about 50% exponential it gets hard to control the plane.

With each of these planes I used http://www.rcfoamcrafters.com/fwcalc.html to calculate the CoG - and sided on a nose heavy placement.

In my experience, adding more sweep to the wing really helps correct the "pitchiness" that I was experiencing (without having to make the wing more nose heavy).
