End of an era

ALERT !, set your VCR's, the last shuttle flight is planned to occur on time in about an hour and a half.....

This is the end of an era for our place in human history.

My father was part of the Space Program, I wish he could see this one last time.

Not sure if we are in the same era if you are still using your VCR.

Tim, thanks, I forgot. Now if reporters would stop asking stupid, redundant questions and let us listen to the ground and crew talk.....

Wow, they actually did shut up.

HEY I watch it from the net and the TV in witch we have direct TV it was very intresting . THE net stay with it longer then the TV. To the point whear you saw the shuttle leave that large cylender and go onto orbit.
Then they went to mission control. There is or was a link to all of it on the net.
We all watch or heard history being made. Neat for sure.

My folks took a vacation about 20 years ago on a cruise from Florida. One of the hilightes for them was that they were there when a shuttle was schedualed to take off so they made arrangements to see a launch in person. Although they were several miles away along a road with hundreds of others, they witnessed this great spectacle. To this day my dad has said this was one of those must see experiences in life as the raw power of the machine lifting off and then the noise shhok the ground all around them. Looks like many others just have to watch archievd material from here on.

Back in the 80's I was driving by Morton Thiokol in Utah and they happened to be testing an SRB strapped down on its side ....
From miles away it was pushing on our car windows, the dust cloud went for miles ...

As many as I've seen on TV I'm still in awe of the immense power and the fact that all those little parts work so well. I was on the edge of my chair till it got up there almost the same as the first time. Don't know if I'd sit up there and let them light the fuse under me. Maybe 50 years ago.

Lest we forget those who gave their lives.....I was on top of a high rise in Jacksonville the day Challenger was launched for her last time (The Cape is just over the horizon from there), and we could see the launch go terribly wrong live. To those that lead and give their utmost, those that follow and still show the way, I raise a #25 to you.

I second that fooman. My wife has worked at NASA since the start of the STS program. She has had a front row seat for all that has happened these last 30 years. She has had the chance to meet some of the greats like John Glenn when he flew and several of the folks that walked on the moon. She works here at the Johnston Space Center in Houston. A lot of sad folks today but proud that they did a great job for the country.
