It's not really, I was always think that if you have no issue there is no urgency to send it in. That's what HH also thinks as seen here http://www.horizonhobby.com/ProdInfo...n_FAQ_v4JR.pdf

It comes down to owners that have issues Gimbal or dsm2/DSMX should send it in and the ones that don't have the option of sending it or not.

That kind of reminds me of homeowners doing their own electrical work in violation of the National Electrical Code. They may think it is fine for them, but what happens if they sell the house. The new owners will be vulnerable to any problems that were originally not apparent.

No it's not but if you want to see it that way thats fine.

If I was buying something used I would make search to research a little before buying. If I cam across recall, bulletin or what ever you may want to call it I would enquire to see if they were done before buying.

Just like when you buy a home you have it inspected.

If you have no issues with gimbal and have no DSM2 then your lucky #1 you got no issues and #2 you got a choice to send it in or not.

I love the argument that only licensed people can do work properly
One can only hope---
The chance that they should be best is real and that is hard to argue against

However - learning basics about hobby, car and home is time well spent
Some poor (really poor now) folks in our area believed the documents that prooved their homes built on the side of a sand mountian were safe .
Why?
Because licensed engineers (?) tested and approved it.
True story-unbelievable as it may seem

It is not that simple and straightforward. Home inspectors are not electrical inspectors. A DX8 that was not updated could be a time bomb someday in the future.

Believe me or not, I have seen some of the scariest "electrical installations" by homeowners.

No surprise there -
The big surprise for me was when I found there was ZERO correlation between commercial pilots and their ability to fly rc models
Some were/are incredibly good -others -could not grasp the concept.
Ditto for engineers- some I worked with were excellent -others could look things up but then did not know what to do with the answers.
medical doctors have a better ratio of knowing how to use their book larning.
Years back I worked with 'good ol boys in the clothing plants down south.
These guys had only a basic education but had an uncanny grasp of all the equipment in some complex environments.
