If you look close you will see that those early cars had Cameron engines. They say Cameron on one side, and ThimbleDrome on the other. I remember a friend of mine having one of those back in the 50"s. If I remember right, I think the Cameron engine was a .19.

I thought about that actually but I was told by one of the guys from one of the tether car racing clubs that the Nylint castings are not very strong and the wheels, gears and tank that come with the car are unusable. I already have wheels, a drive train a tank and have some bar stock aluminum that I could mill a chassis pan from and some sheet stock as well as some blocks of oak that I could use for the body.

Here is a tether car to drool over. It has an OS Pegasus flat four cylinder four stroke engine in it.

It never ceases to amaze me what men with money, machining skills and "one-upmanship" can do.

Kmot, that is just amazing. I would have assumed someone would have made a VW Beetle replica with the Pegasus engine.

It is just a matter of time before someone does a Jet Turbine powered tether car.

How about the old Jetex engines and stuff, like tether cars for example:

Rail cars was something that had me wondering what happened to them all. I guess the large space requirement for a track was a killer for many locales. Plus the noise too. I never got to witness any of these running out here myself. Maybe it was a european or UK thing for a while. So I don't know if anyone still does it or not. But it would be pretty cool to watch and maybe run one myself too.

I'd love to see them in run person as well. I'm trying to start a tether car club here in Maryland but it is turning out to be tougher than I thought.

If the weather cools off a little this evening, I'm going to run my COX Riviera tether car and post video.

I also have some new in package COX glow plug clips in the classified section if anyone is interested.

I love the old car videos. It is a bummer that all that went away and we don't have them around anymore.

Back in the early 1950's I knew a dentist in Austin, TX, Doc Baker. He ran tether cars and flew control line speed airplanes. I never saw them run, but he would show them to me when I came to have my teeth worked on. They were absolutely perfect. The fuel tanks were precisely made and nickel plated, for example. As I recall, all his cars and planes were black, and had mirror finishes. He told me there was a tether car track in the area, which was one of the best in the world, but, again, I never visited it.
