Very nice model Greg. I have been interested in this one for some time, but have had too much else in the build queue. Your build has got me thinking again

Here's some more inspiration - some additional pics of Ken's taken by xplaneguy - check out his neat blog entry here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1446501

Quick question for those who already have a AV-36 model. Do you use ackerman angle on the rudders as per the full-size? Looking at the f/s throw set-up the inner rudder appears to be used more as a drag plate than a rudder!

LP,

I will keep you and the rest in mind.

Ren,

Thanks for posting the video

Gordon,

The kit comes with the rudder position clearly labeled.

No rudders on mine. The collective wisdom was that they were not very effective and Muder does not recommend them. However, I am constantly poking my rudder stick to try to calm the yaw down. The big one has a lot of rotational interia and once it starts yawing it can be a bit of work to get it settled down.

I think what might be more effective is to mix up aileron and the split flap on the same side. The moment arm for that combination is considerably more than the rudders and I think it would be possible to get pure yaw with the right mix. Unfortunately my current radio can't do it.

Ken has a good point, there are vertical fins, but no rudders.

The "Mini" does not have any flaps, but I like Ken's idea for yaw control on the "big" one.

Well here is another video I found of Ken's plane: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXyPJgHrdQ4
And here is another really nice video of Nodellbaumuder Fauvel's:

Back to work. The wing is glued together with the centerline fiberglass reinforcement drying!

Just for interest, which may help in setting up a larger scale AV-36.

I am also interested in the effectiveness of the flaps?

http://www.schmierer-modellbau.com/ has a 3 m version of the AV36 C. I have the uncovered version. It is all wood built-up. It looks more scale than the mini mentioned in this thread.

Go to http://www.schmierer-modellbau.com/1...html/index.htm and find the AV 36 c link on the second box.

Hello Brian,

Yes I agree the Schmierer and 1/4 Modellbaumuder are much closer to scale. Right now I am interested in seeing how I like the flight characteristics of this planform as a sloper. If I do, I will go for a the 1/3 scale Modellbaumuder

Happy flying

Gordon -

The split flaps on mine were well worth the effort. At max open of about 70 degrees they are fairly effective at dissipating energy. Lesser openings will give a distinct bump up of extra lift. Mine are almost pitch neutral.
