How to get fuselage former shapes from three views?

How do I get the former shapes from a three view? I.E. the ME 262 has a triangular cross section. How do you get that info out of a three view?
Thanks.
Rob

Rob, None to my knowledge. I have had to "fudge-it" in the past, from studying pics. But, good enough for my use.

A lot easier with partial stations included on plans.

I agree with Saint Martin. The Me 262 is a very popular plane so there must be some accurate 3-views with extra details showing cross sections at different parts of the aircraft. The picture below is actually not the greatest as you can only see three "former shapes" in the pic. Most have 4 or 5 to my knowledge.

Don't worry, research around, you'll find some perfect 3-views soon.

The net has TONS of drawings and views of the Stormbird. Shouldn't be hard to find.

Thanks guys.
I'm not doing a ME 262, I just thought that due to it's odd shape it was a good example of what I was asking.
In fact I'm doing an Arado 234 bomber. This one is easier but this is the first time I've tried to start just from photos and three views. I have the Profile Publication on this plane.

Rob, are you doing an EDF or prop driven version?

One option is to get a static plastic model to use as a sample.

I just did a web search on the Arado. Not much found in terms of drawings. I did find some references about the prototype using a dolly for take-off and a retractable landing skid.

Hello Guys,

I too have looked all over the web for this plane and found very little indeed. The Russian site has it listed in thier drawings from that era but upon trying to open it all that come from the download is a version of the Me 109. I too would love to find more on this subject. For those who will pay for the drawings there is a resource in California called Bob Banca or some thing like that who lists the plane in thier site. I do have an old book called The Encyclopedia of Millitary Aircraft that has a 3-view but no scanner.

Cheers,

Eric B.

Sorry to tell ya Rob, but there isn't enough info in a 3 view drawing to create or project your own cross sections. You could however, artistically create your own. Or continue searching for plans that have cross sections cut already.

cheers

Thanks chiefwinston.
I couldn't see how it could be done, but I thought maybe I had missed something (it does happen, realy) obvious that you guys could help with.
So, Thanks.

RobZ,
I have known some modelers who buy a plastic kit, build it, and actually cut it with a zona saw to get cross sections. Pretty radical but it works.

RobZ,
It's your lucky day! Just dug around in my archives and found Aeromodeller Scale drawings of Arado 234B Blitz Bomber. 1/72 scale drawings, 3- views, cross sections of everything. Even the bombs! In fact, I have TWO of them. Send me a PM with your address and I'll mail it to you. Should be everything you need.

John

Bob Banka's catalogue on Air Documentation has an excellent section on cutting up a plastic model to get cross sections.
