I sailed the C-J boat today with some club members and a variety of boats. We had 8 sail boats on the lake (2 J boats ) with good wind.

Good photos, ED.
I bought a used mast and sails from Hans Berger. He was very generous and let me purchase them for a very fair price. I was lucky that he had a spare set.
Soon, the build will be under way.

Just a reminder. The Paderewski Model Yacht Club in Plainville CT is hosting the first ever Canterbury J NCR on August 20th and 21st. If you are in the area stop by and watch the races.

The National Champion Race for the Canterbury J,s was held last weekend Aug 20th and Aug 21st. Here are a few pictures of the event. I would like to thank David Hopkinson for letting me post the pictures that he took of the race's; he also captured 3rd place.

If there is any wrong information here please correct it.

Hi Ed,
I just wanted everyone to know that the J-545 was just partly finished and sailed for the first time in the Regatta. With David H. as her skipper she had a real good showing. Hans

The photos turned out great Hans, next year we plan on coming out! Nice trophy plaques by the way.
It looks like it was a lot of fun.

Is there a thread about making a wooden deck like in this pic?

I'm looking for "step by step" with lots of pictures

Thanks,
V.

Planked Deck

The planked deck instructions are available in an article in the Model Yachting magazine featuring the larger "J" class and as a video from the "J" class. It is a fairly straight forward process, although time consuming. Both of these instructions use black paper between the planks to simulate the caulking on the full size boats. The deck in the picture used 1/32' Bass wood strips on edge between the planks. The choice is yours as to whether you want light or dark.

Well, I started the beloved New Zealand Canterbury J boat cradle today. It needed some modifications.

It is not step by step, but take a look at my Newport 12 build. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1467245
This was only my second planked deck, it is really not that hard, just very time consuming. Be happy to help with any questions you have.
