Well it's not specifically about "Canterbury" J's, but I thought this was a REALLY impressive picture of a real J-Class.

At long last, here (I hope) are some pics of the boat so far. It may not show, but the waterline and cove strip are maroon, as on the replica Ranger.

That looks REALLY nice Richard. Are you going to have two hatch covers.....one flat and one with the scale deckhouse?

Tis model of the Rainbow is a sailing model.
The lenght is 2 meter and a spar is 2.65meter.
The sail will be made of the orginal material ( North sails 3DLI)

I try to post there all the progress. This month I am going further with my model , so it will be sail this summer.
I was also with the regatta in Falmouth with the orginal J''s.
My model was there in the museum.

the rainbow have no " park avenue" boom, but a "Box" boom.

Jankraak, I am curious. Did you deepen the keel by 2 inches as is done with the AMYA J class models ?

Yes the model is deept about 2 inches, but you can''t see it, because the new "Rainbow" has also a deeper keel.

Yes, the plan is to have a "racing" hatch and a decorative one. Since the model presently lives on the dining room table (with enthusiastic permission), it will need a bit of animation: but that will be a separate project.

I am presently wrestling with the deck fittings. I don't like the "racks" and after some analysis (and CaptBit remarks) have concluded they are not really necessary and point attachments will suffice. The mast will have some for'n aft adjustment; the shrouds will have three points each side and the jib three as well - almost like the Soling 1M. Until there are enough boats to establish a strong racing program, I'll delay dealing with those (serious) details.

I do however have another question(s).... What seems to be the best position for the jib: 1. distance between the main and jib; and 2. position of the jib boom attachment point; and 3. jib boom extension, beyond the clew and the counter balance weight ???
