Finally lost the motor that was playing up today, about to take off and the B17 exit stage right LOL. Replaced it with the HK DT700 and fits and runs fine, may have to get a few more but doubt it will be an issue as the motor that let go was not right from the first power up bench test.

just flew it again today, 3000mah 3s and honestly im not gonna change it it flies fine, very scale and it is actually quite hard to stall. i can idle along with the flaps down at near walking pace... yes take off is slow and you need to fly it scale in turns but hey its a b17 not a p38.

Thanks: I shimmed the main gear slightly foward and now
it 's no problem takeoff ,landing and taxing on our grass field:

So now Its great , 4s 3000 lipo ,Mas 9x7x3 props , ubc and
gear shimmed - using a fishing scale it weighed just over 6 lbs
ready to fly .

It was windy yesterday (90 deg cross wind) 20+ mph and I
found it don't like wind , it bounced around ,but was controlable
it nice on a day like yesterday to have the extra power, and the rudder
is very affective as I was able to keep it lined up on landing even in the
cross wind - on take off you can see the wind blowing the model to the
right

B-17 on a windy day.wmv (2 min 52 sec)

Put three more flight on mine this weekend. Same setup as before; PZ Corsair props, 2x2200msh 3S Zippys, 9min flights. No problems. Last flight was a bit breezy but handled the wind well. This makes 9 flight total so far. Gave everything a good looking over and things look solid. Decided to start working on my first upgrade; ordered an electronic switch so I can slave the landing lights to the retract switch and put the nav lights on a separate switch. Going to have break into the wiring to see how to separate the nav from landing lights. Will let you all know how this goes

Maybe you'll find a way to keep them on steady too -- no blinking!

I belive the lights have the circuit built in , so you would
have to change the led. radio Shack sell's self blinking
leds .

but I like the Idear , I was think about 2 mirco switchs so when the
wheel extends it turns landing light on --- so then just like in a real
airplane you have a gear down and locked indecator

I kinda like the blinking; although not scale. I look at the circuit tonight to how much invasion is possible

That's exactly the same prop and battery combination that I'm using on mine and it really does fly nicely. Cruises around on a little more than 1/2 throttle, decent flight times, and balances out nicely.

Really enjoy flying this thing on nice calm mornings. Flew 5 more times this morning at Apollo. That makes 53 flights so far! Like you said, time to start working on the little upgrades.

1) Switchable landing lights
2) Dulling down the glossy green (& and maybe painting the underside a gray color??)
3) Attaching all of the machine guns with magnets
4) Rotating top turret??
5) Working Bomb doors/drop??
6) Crew members
7) Cloth covering over the rear machine guns
8) Weathering
9) Retractable tail wheel
10) Black de-icing boots on the leading edge of the wings and horizontal stabilizer???

Would something like this work for making the lights switchable on/off?

I only have a 6 channel reciever installed in mine. So I have the lights plugged into the bat/bind port. Don't know if I would be able to hook this thing up to that port or not?

it most likly could be connected in line with the landing gear channel using a y
so that in one direction it would turn something on or off lights?
