First flight was 2 x 3S 2200 25c packs and the second was with 2 x 3S 2200 30c packs. Packs were warm after 1-2mins so I'm guessing its using everything its got. Im not the most seasoned flyer so my experience is minimal but from what I have learned with other RTF planes is they almost always perform better with a little more mojo so I will go 4 cell

the power problem is most likly in scale props , I have the mossie
from the same company and just by changing the props to
master Airscrew 9x7x3 make's fly like a totaly diffrent model.
until mine arrives I can't tell for sure but the props do look the same.

I did read somewhere that some of the three blade imported props on multi engine foamys flatten @ as RPM increases & should be replaced w/ better quality but don't remember if it was relative to this B17 . Regardless , it is a relatively inexpensive improvement W/ more feedback validating this need.

I have make a "static" building of this B-17 (from Lanxiang who's the manufacturer).
1st: you most creat a carbon or wood renfort to have very strong wing (not include)
2nd: install 2 pieces of wood gudgeons for fixing wing in the fuselage (plastic one are too shorts).
3rd: propellers are pour quality and will flatten with power of the motor. So try to find better quality of propeller, contra rotatives
4th: CG seems good, but the place for 2 3S lipo is too advance on the front, so you must put them under roof tower. That means 2 possibilitie for acces: By the cockpit, but not easy, or cut the roof for easy acces and glu some magnets.
But this las point must be check...I'm 90% sure of the bad stock position of lipos...

What is the approximate size of the stock props? I'll look and see if it's listed somewhere but if someone who has there kit can tell us it would be great.

A prop change sounds like a good plan, stock ones are 10inch x ?? very shallow....4 at the most (they are slow fly double nut type so Masterscrew etc would need prop mounts). They are also narrow AND flexible so I can see why they flatten out, I have been watching jrb's vids etc and wonder if thats the reason he seems to be chasing COG. Need to get spare props anyway.

after a long delay mine will be here on friday - I have both
master air screw 9x7x3 and 10x 7x3 props so I can try both
and see what amp/watt reading I get compaired to stock

going to 4 s is a good choice but be careful at 4 s unless
this has a seprate ubs you cause the bec's to overamp/overheat
so a amp/watt meter is needed to check

Maybe the new style GWS 3 blade props would be an improvement then. I'll have to look at the ones I have to see what they look like.

Has anybody taken a watt and amp reading yet?

The six pound B-24 I scratch built had plenty of power at only about 125 watts per motor. It can fly super slow, or climb at a steep angle. Flights can last 20 min. on two 2150 3s packs. Here is a video from two years ago with CN at the sticks. Props used were four Parkzone Corsair props which might be too large for the B-17, also prob. too steep of pitch without re-winding the motors. J. Morgan also built one of the B-24's and used the same props with 750kv motors. If 2x 2200 packs are getting pretty warm the plane must be pulling a lot of amps and watts. Worst case I will swap props out, maybe re-wind motors for best match.

What size are the Parkzone Corsair ?
Also, can anyone give a RTF weight of the 17 w/ lipo ?

I belive the proble or underpower is the props they are very flexable
and when I flew my mossie on the stock props it just about flew
and other's in the tread had switched to master airscrews
and had gotten good results so I tryed and now it flys great.
the props look nice but just don't work

Thanks, B-24 is the same scale as the B-17.

I believe the Parkzone prop. is a bit over 9". They are pretty stiff but have a larger center hole that will have to have a spacer. Might also be worth trying the old GWS 9" x 7 as they may be a little stiffer for a cheap price.

I will run some tests once mine shows up next week as I've already got both types of props. The other thread said 500 watts and that should fly the plane real well. Bet you guys are right, props are too flexible. I also believe the FMS B-25 props might work? I think they come as a set and also are counter rotation. Kinda pricy though.

1st accurizing report

Having assessed what comes in the box with this kit, I've decided to go ahead and try to address the most glaring scale issues:
The port waist gun needs to be moved backward directly opposite the other, which is in the correct position for a B-17F.
The rudder should have a straight lower trailing edge, not curved.
The cockpit windshield needs lowering toward the center.
Them eyesore grilles placed over the escs have got to go (there's already plenty ducted air going thru where the esc's are placed). They'll be replaced with thin depron sheet & sanded flush.
The panel trenches need to be filled with spackle & sanded back.
Lastly, a total repaint is in order.
Thankfully I still have a set of Royal/Marutaka waterslide decals which are to the same scale.
I've already started removing some of the decals on the model. They just peel off (along with the underlying paint), so maybe I could try peeling off the rest with some scotch tape, lol.
