my initial thoughts from last week till today:

1. well packaged, easy to assemble, everything you need is in the box
2. When assembling the carbon tube to the fuselage and tail, lightly sand it first to slightly reduce the diameter so it will slip into place as far as it needs to go
3. the ESC doesnt have a manual, but the customer support guy Jason will help with the basic setup of getting it into the brake mode. pretty easy actually
4. I needed about 1/2oz to get it to CG out.
5. I think the canopy would be better with a couple rare earth magnets than the velcro, but the velcro holds fine
6. I am using the recommended 2S 2100 lipo packs. plenty of power and duration
7. First toss was straight and it climbs just like on the HL video- almost straight up. You can do some really good looking huge loops.
8. very stable, very predictable, although when thermalling with the flaps down I stalled it and it tried to spin. One wing and the nose both dropped simultaneously and it was trying to go around on me but it recovered quickly.
9. The basic plane is light, and if it was just a pure glider it would just about be a floater, but with the power package it picks up some weight and thermalling a bit tricky as it picks up speed FAST when you drop the nose.
10. Its a really fun plane to fly. It is fast at full throttle and it rolls like a pattern plane almost. On each 2100 2S pack I got a lot of time with power on doing big loops, rolls, banzai passes around the field at 5 feet off the deck, and then climb back up to thermal.
I got two 30 minute flights from my two packs.
11. Landing is pretty predictable when you drop the flaps to 45. Slows down nice but really wants to pitch up so you have to be quick with down elevator or program some F-E mix to compensate. Try landing without flap and it ends up way past where you though it would be.

took half the weight out and it still flies nice even though the CG isnt at 55mm. I suspect that you might have 5 or 10mm leeway on the CG as the HL tech rep says every one he's seen built and flown didnt add any weight at all, using a 2S 2100

I see you have an Alula too! I work for skywest and the last time I was at work in SLC I saw they got rid of that RC field that was east of the freeway over by the airport.

I think you will need to change props to keep the amps in range or just dont fly full throttle. it really moves out on a 2S 2100 though. THey are like 9 bucks each

Yes, they are putting soccer fields in the flight park. We do have plenty of open area to fly in, anytime. I love the Alula, I have a Weasel too. Both by Dream-Flight.
I have a health problem that prevents me from much plane building. I was looking into getting a Samurai but it is likely out of my building ability.

Yes, I know, but with the tremor in my hands it would be a struggle. Expo makes it easy for me to fly but building is another thing.

Dang ecase...just had to chime in here...I feel sad about your dilemma...I want to build it for you ...I really do. Is there someone nearby that could help? A club member perhaps...

If I were closer or headed that way I'd deliver it finished, trimmed and RTF!

I appreciate your thoughts. I pretty much stick to planes that come ready to fly and my wife helps me get them ready. Thanks
