hi Khaled ,
Sorrry to hear about your plane. I.ve learned a few the hard way too.
1. check failsafes each time
2. use a BEC
3. have a gps tracker watertight and padded.

Didn't you record the last gps coords.

Screen 0

Anybody seen this screen before?

It has been working flawlessly this week until I powered up today. I can cycle through screens numbers (0, 2,3,4) 0,2 &3 are as below, screen 4 is the config menu. I'm guessing screen 0 is some kind of factory default? maybe screen 1 is the OSD. I rebooted several time but no joy, help? Daylight Savings just kicked in here so I have heaps of good light after work

Sent you a PM. My guess is that there was a voltage instability that affected the firmware. Maybe an static discharge.
Will be checking the firmware just in case.

Hi

I've done the following mistakes ... actually very expensive mistakes .. but I didn't expect a Long range UHF system to have a very short range of less than 200 m by flying only line of sight ... because of some interference somewhere ... I thought I will have at least 1000 meter of range in the worst case not less than 200 m ..live and learn ...

1- I didn't have a recorder
2- I didn't do a range check with the video gear on/off
3- I haven't waited for the sat lock to finish...
4- I didn't write my phone number on it
5- I didn't have any means of locating (GPS tracker, UHF beacon )
6- haven't checked noise floor ..

Although I had all of those on my check list .. but I didn't know I should have done so even before the very 1st short range LOS flight ...

But I want you all to know that I almost got that expensive bird fine tuned and it was able to fly itself in strong winds very stable .. Thanks to the RVOSD autopilot ...

and I didn't have any intention to fly FPV... I only wanted to fly short range line of sight .. just to get the feel of the plane and practice launches .. the last thing I expected is to get a fail safe in less than 200m ...

EZUHF R/C link on 433mhz
Video on 1280mhz (300mw VTX with a cloverleaf )
I used shielded cables, torroids, twisted wires, .. I was really careful on that build ...
a separate sBEC to power the servos , a separate SBEC to power the camera/ VTX

Layout is typical .. like all the pilots of a Zephyer have .. VTX is located midway of the right wing and the EZUHF RX is located midway of the other wing ... GPS antenna is near the middle section on the EXUHF side ...

khaled,

why did the EzUHF go into "failsafe" mode at such short distance?

If it did goto "failsafe", how come the RVOSD didn't RTH and loitered around your flying field?

Is it because you didn't "wait for the Satellites" to lock on? How long did you wait?

Maybe I missed a few steps?.... just wanted to learn from your expensive mistake.
Sorry about your $1000+ loss. That is a lot of money.....

Does anybody know where to get a GPS extension cable or which connectors I must search for on ebay? I don't want to pay at $15 or more int'l shipping costs (to Europe) for a $2 item that fits in an envelope.

Alex listed the correct connectors on the RV message boards. It's the same connectors for Cyclops, so I copied the link for those users in the Storm and Nova threads. I don't have time to look now, but search my posts and you will find it, or go to the RV message boards, they are better for RVOSD anyway.

Thanks iskess.
@IMEIV:
Below are the relevant links I've found so far for replacement GPS cables/connectors..

Alex's answer:
http://rangevideo.com/forum/showthre...nnecting-cable

This may be a compatible cable:
http://hobbywireless.com/index.php?m...roducts_id=523

These are the connectors Alex recommended (JST SH 5 & 6 pins):
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10360
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10361

This is the 6 pin connector from Ebay that fits the GPS:

I used this,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-Micro-J...item27cb27f00b

You need desolder connector on OSD board then solder the male connector.
works fine..
Any alternative, please share

There is just soo much information to sort through on this thread, I was curious if someone might be able to direct me to a schematic of wiring the RVOSD to DragonLink and Lawmate.

...I read the directions, but cant seem to process the info

is this right?:
