GWS Tiger Moth on floats

Attached are two shots of my TM on foam floats (16 inches long and about 2 inches wide and deep). She takes off the water great with these and flys fine. Note the Swiss markings, the Blackhawk Squadron marking and the aluminum cowl. The floats can be removed and she flies with Trexler Air Wheels off the terra firma.

Awesome, Pat!

Great job! Are those Wingo floats or your own design?

Shall GWS make floats as an option parts?

Gald to see your float.

Shall GWS make floats as an option parts for flyer who love to get one without difficult to build by himself.

I believe, the street price in USA will be $8 for Pico-sireies ( who powered by IPS or similar and weight 5~10 oz. ).

How's that?

Pat, That looks great. How much do the set of floats weigh? Thanks.

Houng-Wen, You will get a lot more response on this but I would definitely produce a set of floats that would match the Tiger Moth and the Piper Cub. Thank you.

Pat,

That's really beautiful. It makes me wish I flew near water so I could do it. Maybe I could use them in the snow.

What size Trexlers do you use? I know you posted it before, but that was a while ago. Could we have another picture?

Thanks,

Houng-wen,
I have a Moth and a Cub F. If you sold floats for less than $10 I'd buy some.

Pat, looks great. Also would like to know what the floats weigh?
My balsa floats that I fly my BIII with weigh about 22g each and are about the same W & H as yours but are 18" long. May have to try these on my TM.

Pat, looks excellent! Can you give us more details. How far back is the step on the float. It looks like it is also slightly in front of the CG? Did you have to add the keels under the back part to help with tracking? From the water it looks kind of windy for a TM, so same question as Joystix.

Houng-wen, that would be great, I think that would be a fantastic accessory.

Houng-wen,
At that price I would get a pair of floats for each of my GWS planes. Thanks for being so responsive to your customers, and for the great products that GWS builds.

Pat,
Your floats look great. Are they carved from foam blocks, or are they built up from foam sheets. I scaled some plans for sheet balsa floats, and started to build them from foam sheet instead of balsa. I have had too many other projects to finish them, and if GWS starts shipping floats, I probably never will.

I am living in Taiwan at a flood area, can find water surface easily.
So that I like to float planes too.

Some day when I retired, I will live in Belize, a place located Central America but speak English too! There has a lot of offshore islands and flat land. I bought a parcel of land size 310 acres. can build a runway for nearly 7,000 feet! Land is side of creek and small lake, also just a few mile to sea shore! Belize has world class famous reef! I love it.

I like Tiger Moth, will get a real one sooner or later! I flew full size ultra-light aircraft too. 15 yeras ago, I imported Quick Silver to Taiwan. about 300 UL aircraft here!

But here in Taiwan, land is very limmited, yet with so high density of population. Very risky to fly here, I lost more than 10 friends killed by accident.

Could not fly now, need to myself alive to make good RC models!

GWS TM on floats

Everyone

Mr Lin--definitely manufacture some floats for the Cub, Stick and TM--they are a lot of fun.

The Step on the floats is even with the instrument panel in the forward cockpit. The floats I used were pink foam with minwax polyacrylic and Polyscale silver and used .061 music wire struts. They weighed about 42 grams. I used stock A drive, and 8x280ma NIMH battery pack with 9x7 or 10x8 props. Will attach more photos.

Another TM on floats pic

This is another of the TM on floats. Also my little CO2 powered flying boat (free flight fantasy). Note the Flying Aces Shirt.

Houng-wen,
I would buy floats if you make them. If you do please
consider the design so they will work on snow as well

Pat,
Great job on your moth.I'm sure lots of people know what they will be doing this weekend after seeing your floats.

Mr. Lin,

One more vote for TM floats - or a set that will work with any of the IPS drive airplanes!

Also for the Beaver!

Pat,

Cool!! Any water rudder needed?
