Cool
First S.A Scale gliding aerotow event.

Hi All,
Yesterday the Warthog Radio Flyers Club hosted what was probably the first organised Scale aerotow gliding event in South Africa.
These guys have 3 glider pilots within the club and they helped put the event together, a bit of an experiment , but with a very successful outcome.

Excellent facilities and a field with plenty of space , made aerotowing a lot easier , considering the lack of experience of most pilots.
The weather turned out well , the harsh cold front that had crossed the country only days before, having moved through.

Early morning saw the first flights and sadly, on it's second tug flight the J3 CUB came to grief , due to radio failure of some sort or the line snagging a control surface or both. This meant that Stewart had his hands full and did most of the tugging for the rest of the day, he has a lot of experience and did a sterling job.
Besides all the locally built scale planes we are starting to see some of the
beautifully built imported gliders, ASW 28, and some nice Ventus varients.

General concensus was that it was a huge success and will hopefully lead to futher events of this nature , hopefully on an annual basis.
regards
Mike

more pic's

Hi there,
I have added some more pictures , and will get some more early next week.
Yes we get some good thermals, at midday it was as if the whole sky was going up , but after that the winter sun seemed to lack heat and the afternoon had very little strong lift.
More positive feedback from pilots and organisers , means we are likely to have more events like this in future.
regards ,
Mike
