My Superfly is still in it's box and is in line in the build qeue, as lots of others models are waiting to be setup also. As far as the motor package you plan to choose, keep in mind that is intended an upgrade to a stock brushed motor Easy Star type model. I see that the KV of that Himax HB2815- 2000 motor is2000kv, which should be fine for a 2 blade prop like the APC 6x4E on a 3S lipo. The stock brushless motor that comes with the Superfly is a 1050kv, it's low because it will be turning the included 4 blade prop. If you are planning on using a standard 2 blade prop instead the included 4 blade job, then that is fine, but the 2000kv would be probably too high if you are going to try to turn the stock 4 blade prop on a 3S lipo.

LexusFPV, my Phoenix is in the recyclables bag as of last night:

As for power setup, mine was a no-name 2208/8 2600 kV motor, APC 6x4 prop, and RCtimer 40A ESC. Motor mount from 4mm plywood patterned after the RCSuperpowers motor mount. Original mount removed via Dremel and plywood epoxied on instead, see closeups below. The foam "tail" underneath the motor also needs a bit of shortening.

Measured values: 680g thrust, 29A static current, 20k rpm. Timed at 72 mph via GPS trip logger in level flight. LOTS of power, big fun. Total for parts on Ebay about $35.

I also had a GY48V gyro on the ailerons, highly recommended. Fits nicely in a recess cut into the foam on the back side of the cockpit. Remove a bit of the foam on the inside of the canopy to clear.

Hope this helps.

- Mark

Thanks for those images.....

what was your runtime with the 3s-2200mah?

I'm planning on using 3s-2650mah with the 2200kv, 6x4APCe prop.
Hoping I get more than 20min runtime :-)

@LexusFPV: I was using several 1500 mAh batteries, flight times were around 6 minutes mostly 1/2 - 2/3 throttle with some WOT in between. Be aware that you need batteries capable of delivering up to 30A, so at least a 20C 1500. I tried a light 20C 2200 mAh Turnigy pack as well but didn't like it at all. The additional weight made for quite sluggish handling. Loop diameter almost doubled. I'd rather come back down more often, swap packs, and go up again. I especially like the Turnigy Nano-tech packs as they can be charged at 5C. So basically with three packs you can fly non-stop, two charge off your car/truck battery while you fly the third.

@Doubletap: massive vertical crash from about 60 feet. I was coming out of a roll that went bad. Shut power off and tried to catch her with the elevator but with the high speed and additional weight of the 2200 pack the elevator just flexed out of the way and she went straight in. Fuse was broken in multiple places above and below the wings as well, just can't really be seen in the photos.

Ah well, the power train is now in my AXN Floater. Should be fun! :-)

Hobby King FPVRaptor

Wow, that looks pretty well thought out. If the kit is of decent quality and it flies well that should do very well (if HK can keep it in stock).

It's not really a "Foamie" as the fuselage is blow molded plastic like their Phoenix 2K, but, it's close enough. Of course availability is always a problem with Hobby King because everyone loves a great deal so most of their product line sells briskly.

And unfortunately it will probably be many months before it shows up in the US warehouse.

Yeah, so I'll just wait for it like all the other models I'm waiting for to make it to the USA warehouse, because I have more time than money!

I just received a Mini Swift from them. They had been out of stock for 9 months.

I was thinking about grabbing one of those Mini Swifts also, it's cool that it comes with a whole extra airframe.
