Has anyone on this thread tested either the
1) Sky Surfer/Bixler or the
2) Dolphin Micro Sport?

How do they compare to the others mentioned below?

That's nice! I like the 4 bladed prop. Can't find a vendor who sells the PNF version and will ship to the USA for a reasonable price.

I have a Phoenix (well, what's left of it - it was my first plane). I don't think it'd be worth it. Get a AXN Floater/Clouds Fly (or BMI Arrow if you want a 1.4m plane) or a Dynam Hawksky for half the money.

In stock form the Phoenix doesn't have much power. The 5" 4-bladed prop looks kinda cool but it's inefficient and weighs a ton, as does the stock motor. I ended up putting a Grayson Microjet V3-equivalent power system in which is nice but adds still more to the price.

The fuselage is very weak in the cockpit area and will break on every crash. There isn't even enough "meat" to add crashproofing CF rods. The stock servos are crap as well, one broke during the maiden flight. :-/

I got both of those, my Bixler is ready to fly, but hasn't had a chance to get out to the flying field yet. my Dolphin MS is still in the box.

Let me know how you do with both of them. I crashed my Sky Surfer several weeks ago, broke the wing spar, ordered replacements and smaller carbon fiber tubes to go inside the 6mm spar, and should get them in this week.

My new Dolphin is in that same shipment.

SuperFly X received yesterday from Hobby People just as scheduled. Did a quick inspection of the kit, and is impressed. Although listed as a Kit, but it is more like a PNF less the servos and ESC. The brushless motor is already installed and 3.5mm gold male bullet connectors installed on the motor leads, just add your ESC with corresponding Female 3.5 connectors., Supply your own 9g servos for elevator/rudder and 2 ailerons, rudder/elevator linkages are already installed in the fuselage.


This model has good sized ailerons, with substantial control surface chord length, should be very responsive and aerobatic on roll axis, unlike the AXN clouds Fly and the Dynam offerings which both have inadequate ailerons size IMO which makes them somewhat unresponsive on roll. The SuperFly is more like the Sky Surfer/Bixler with much larger ailerons. Looking forward to setting up and fly this one!

Doubletap, the Superfly-X is the Phoenix with different stickers. Not even a copy, it's the exact same thing.

Be aware of the points I mentioned above, specifically the fragility of the nose area. Also look at the hinges and tape them if required. On mine all were fine and have held up well except the elevator.

Also, there's a relatively hefty weight inside the nose at the very front, embedded in the foam. If you fancy a bigger battery dig it out. The plane will balance nicely by moving the battery back and forth, lots of room inside since there are no servos to get in the way. Speaking of balance, CG right on the mold release "pods" at the front underside of the wing works for me.

You're right about the ailerons, they do work. May want to program some dual rates for the maiden.

Right on!, thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely remove the weights so I can use a standard 2200mah 3S. The HK Bixler also had a thick stack of large washers hot glued into the nose for balancing. I always set up my planes with dual rate and plenty of expo, to insure I will have smooth and precise roll control just off center, but at the same time, when I bang the ailerons hard over, I like my planes be able to roll like they were chucked up into a drill motor!
