Personally, I don't put primer in the mold. Why? Paint build up on mold key ways,
hides crappy lay ups, can't see former and tray locations. Residual wax on primer has to be light sanded, may brake into glass, very light "skin".

Our no primed way yields flawless durable finish every time, never a pin hole.

And yes, it was hot, I think we both lost a few pounds of water. But did help cure the epoxy faster. Almost too fast.

West systems epoxy, by the way.

Scott can give specs later as we see results from first lay up. Small molds take almost as much labor as a big one!

The versatility of the lay up is vast. Paint, tint, glass, carbon, kevlar, ect.......

Whatever works (or you like) in your application.

I should be ready to do my F-104 layup this weekend, it will be one layer of 5.4oz Kevlar resin infused. My molds have a layer of PVA and then primer. I found that you lose some of the detail if your prime and paint out of the mold.

Hi Guys,
Danj31 yours looks killer...way more detail...I dont think I would use Kevlar as its a pain and way over kill...but hey if you like it go for it..it will never break apart..
Mine is the old Steve Neil 104 for 50mm. I want to make molded wings and tail just for fun..Steve(Scalecraft) and his buddy Robert as both ganging up so we can do a bunch of planes we have been thinking about..so this is our start..I will post more pics later when we pop out the parts..the primed one is the one Steve Neil did many years ago and We got second hand

That is a &^#%@!!! BEAUTIFUL F-104 mold!!!!!!. Talent. I am humbled.

I had not planed on detailing that much till you raised the bar with that pic.

More work, but only needs to be done once.

What are the wing made from??? And why did you leave the tail section without a trim line. The mold Scott has is like that. More work.

Scott.

You were right about the size. My eye for details are getting blurry.

Hummm. I have a 21st century F-104 coming. I wonder what that would be like as a composite model. Could it be a plug?

i believe this is the one dan used.

id kill to get their F-86 and mold it...it would make a awsome high power 40mm model.
ive got a 400W 40mm setup that flew a 50mm j power T-33 with authority, and at around 85mph, and weighed 23oz...
