Incredible flying, Doug!
Can you tell me your total motor-on time and how much capacity you draw from the battery?
I just fly off the timer,i know if i land around the timer-i will have around 12 to 17% left in the pack. The flight from that vid,all parts came down at nice temps,i am not worried one bit....wish i could give you more info, but i am not a Fun Jet Data Guy

Great video .
Thank You.
I want to eXplane what 5S would do with Your flying,-You would not be able to hold throttle switch for that long. And if You would,You would not be able to control the plane Teaser
Yuri.
So what are you really trying to say ? i think i can adapt to 5 cells with only major issues

You went way far from recommended 3.6v/cell keeping only 12-17%,
It feels to me that your pack will puff soon...
That's only my opinion based on what I saw,
I would never cross 30%.

What happen when You adding one cell is-
You actually hold throttle switch less for the same power You got use to.
You using motor less.
AMPS go up slightly higher but controller takes it ,cause again,You using it less .
Batteries are cooler for same reason.
With Your 14.5x14 prop it is simple shame not to go for 5S.
BUT ,what kills the whole enchilada is-
that You getting high ,like on drags and start to hold throttle longer and longer
forgetting that now it is 5S that You flying.
Yuri.
P.S. I think I mentioned this before ,my radio programmed timer, sowing me
throttle holding time 0.3 sec in some motor runs. 16x17 slim 5S 2100mha.

Well.... I do believe that decisions based upon quality data will beat the "happy-go-lucky" approach 99 out of 100 times. But the data only has value if you know how to interpret them.

Just sayin.....

Nice Video
cool flying BUT:
the time throttle closed are very short by whole flying, so the ESC and Motor are every few seconds in peak.
Do you measure temperature ?? sometimes ???
if I was you I would measure directly after flying - otherwise day will come you have a smoker at your bird maybe

I'm currently running 48 but think I'll try a bit further back. The plane flys great except it doesn't track through turns the way I would like it to.
I need to spend a session trimming this plane.
Thanks for the CG Doug.......

For sure,go try around 54 back,it will hook the turns a lot nicer.....but will also speed up your landing first couple turns I would not hit it as hard as you normally would, the rearward cg makes the elevator respond a lot more.

Damn.....small steps grass hopper....lol
Man I hate to loose how slow I can land the X without Flaps right now. It's unreal and slower than my Enigmy with flaps!!
Yes I'm pretty familiar with the effects on a plane of moving the CG aft.
Used to race F1 and QM in my younger days.
Could absolutely get into F5D or F5B now, if there were any races near.

Doug, are the sawtooths available commercially now or is it because you're "special"?

I think the answers are "Yes" and most definitely "Yes"

The sawtooths can be bought here: http://www.bigbruceracing.com/

I also fly the mega 16/35/1 w/ 5,2:1 GB in my Excite with the other nose. 14,5x14 on 4s is indeed a rather safe setup, especially with small batteries. In my experience with logging temperatures the 15x16 on 4s should be limited to about 40 seconds to achieve 80 degrees C at the motor and with 5s + 15x16 it takes just 22 seconds of total motor on time to get there, 3,3 kW peak power.

Moved the CG back about 3mm and I like the way the plane flys a LOT better. Much better tracking. When I roll inverted power off it doesn't take any down to fly inverted. Small change but a huge difference!!
But slowing it down for landing is another story. It just floats forever. Gonna have to work on getting my flaps functioning again.
