Yeh, and if I remember correctly you got slammed on the forums by some expert that proved theoretically that wouldn't work under any circumstances.

Thanks for all the info and great advice you folks have provided me these past few weeks. You've got me back in the air (after 19 year absence) and have educated me about this new fangled world of electric R/C flight! 20 years ago the Goldberg Electra was about it with a heavy 2x6" brick of nicads. Wow! Times sure have changed. I look forward now (with confidence) to many enjoyable hours with the hobby. thank you again

BEC is an acronym for Battery Eliminator Circuit. It is nothing more than a regulator in the ESC that supplies usually 5 volts for the receiver and servos. They usually only supply enough power for 2-3 servos, except in larger ESCs. Many times an external BEC is used to power the receiver and servos, since they can supply more current when needed.
A switching BEC, which most are, are much more efficient at converting the battery voltage to 5 volts without producing a lot of heat.
A BEC in an ESC will overheat and shut down if the power exceeds it's capability. When that happens, your receiver also loses power and bad things happen.

Odysis Dopplered me this morning at 82.7mph using the iphone rcspeedo app.

It took quite a few runs to get it as the fan is pretty quiet.

I'll do another run tomorrow morning on video for POF and Official Doppler readings.

Where can i get a new impeller? I found one at sydneyrcjets, but $7 + $35 for shipping is totally insane when the whole plane costs 50 bucks.

I don't know of anyone more knowledgeable than Nitrocharged about small EDFs and he suggested a cut down GWS 40mm rotor as a replacement in this earlier post to chads:

I will try to modify a GWS 40mm. I should be able to just machine it a little with a lathe at work.

How do i attach it to the motor? I cant see any threads on the impeller. Do i have to mill a hexagonal shape in the impeller and install a nut, or is there any other way to do it?
