I've got a project in mind that would need multiple EDFs, and I think the Skyangel units on 3s would be the ticket. Guess I'll just have to mortgage the house.

I feel your pain. My 747 took 4 motors, fans and escs. That kind of stuff adds dramatically to the cost of a project.

I have tried both units in the same airframe and my preference is with the SkyAngels 35mm units, the AEO fan puts out plenty to fly the airframe no problem, however it required a 30amp ESC and a 800mah 2s pack as opposed to the SkyAngels 35mm fan unit that also flies the same airframe no problem but with a 10amp ESC and a 350mah 2s or 450mah 3s pack, the weight savings is as always a big plus, as far as cost the AEO unit is currently $26 at HobbyPartz and the SkyAngels mtr is currently $24.50,.. the fan is $3-$4 more,...and shipping for either, will be roughly equal, in short you are paying roughly about as much for either unit but you'll get more efficiency and a lot lighter AUW with the SkyAngels set-up.

thats just my experience with both based on the airframe used in this thread:

Hobby B shows 2 fans, 3 and 5 blade. Which one goes with that motor for the nano F-16?

3 blade is for 3s voltage, 5 blade is for 2s voltage.

5 blade works with 3S as well for me (using a Turnigy 12A Plush ESC).

How many flights is that? Have you checked motor and battery temps?

I have a couple models that I use 3s with the 5 blade, I don't do that anymore only due to the motor heating up more than I like. The 3 blade fan allows the motor to run cooler and it seems to have just as much power, probably the lower mass of the rotor allows it to spin faster to make up the difference. I should measure the rpms and find out for sure.

I'm going to swap out the 5 for 3 and see what it's like. I know 4S is way too hot for my liking after only a few seconds into a test run.

I've got maybe 10 flights on the 5 blade with 3S setup over a few months time. Usual flight times are in the 4:30 range. If anyone thinks they've damaged their motors while running this set up, your feedback is most welcome.

I have 5 of the 35mm jets, single and multi engine, and run 5 blade on all 3 cell setups and haven't had a problem yet. But as soon as I say that. I better watch my next flights. Maybe I will think about changing over if you guys start seeing problems.

I've run my F-18 with countless flights on 3s with the 5 blade fan, there haven't been any issues. The motor just gets warmer than I like. The 3 blade fan is probably easier on the lipo more so than the motor. I don't think 3s hurts the motor with a 5 blader. I run the F-15 and Mig 29 on 3 blades with 3s, The F-18 and Mig-15 with 5 blades on 3s and the A-10 with 5 blades on 2s. I've only had one motor let go where it threw a magnet and that was the Mig-15 with 5 blades on 3s. I couldn't say if it was heat related or not.

I'm running the 5 blade fan on 4S/10 amp ESC with ZERO issues in my MiG 15...The kv rating on this motor is rather low...I only run this plane at full throttle for vertical manuevers or for a short high speed pass...I've had no cutouts and the MiG is fast as snot!!!

The flight begins @ 1:10 into the vid...I used my phone camera to record the flight...

You CAN run 4S!!!...I'm going to get an F-15 to run on 4S...She should sound GREAT with those twin fans!!!

I know you keep mentioning 4s. If I'm not liking the heat from 3s and 5 blades, I can't imagine stepping it up.. But if it works, great! You are more brave than I.

Now that the MiG -29 is on 3s, and the fans turn the right way, (!) our weather here has turned for the worst, and I have yet to fly it! Seems to have much improved power, so it should fly well, but with rain, and wind, I can't get it in the air! GRRRRR.....-------Metalguy
