Oh yeah.... the F-18 rocks on 3s. Nearly unlimited vertical, great speed.

+1

Had 3 of them, all gone now due to various reasons, stock servo failures into lake union, misc 100ft trees popping up in mid flight etc, almost gave up on the 35mm line due to my luck with these fast little buggers.

I picked up a couple of the stock 35mm fans from HK, but don't have a motor. Do y'all think the 10mm Ammo from the GP F-86 is a suitable substitute, provided the 3 blade rotor is used? And how about the Turnigy 1015, as well?

Hi,
I want to step up to 3S.
IŽm a little confused about what rotor to use in this case, 5 or 3 blades. I couldnŽt find any exact information in the thread. All I found was just swap the speed controler and use th stock motor and fan.

So I guess this means using the 5-blade rotor on 3 S?

Thanks for any help on this.

Greetings

Michael

I've flown on 3S with the stock motor and 5 blade fan with no problems (after swapping the ESC).

Same here. I actually have never even ran the 3 blade as the 5 blade seemed to work so well. So just upgrade to a 10amp esc and you are ready to go. I know myself and a few others are running the turnigy plush escs that are like $8.50 a piece. Still waiting on replacement fan units I miss flying these little buggars!

Me to, lost a blade in my Nano T45. Looks like it will be grounded for some time! I have considered using a fan unit from the 30mm Sabre. It flys that plane very well.

I'm converting my twin 35mm F15 to 3s. What battery connector are you guys using for this setup? Does the JST handle the amps of the two 35mm on 3S? Or did you go to something else?

I'll be using thje 5 blade rotor.

It was a lot of fun to fly on 2S but a little under powered. I think it will be great on 3S.

I've actually had a manufacturer ship me a test model that had a 24A draw and used a JST connector. I didn't want to use it but tested it anyways before I switched it. It got so hot that the foam that was touching the connector started to melt. That's absurd! I tend use use a mini dean's once the amps go over around 8A, and tend to use a full size dean's at around 20A.
I would think a micro deans should be more than suffecient with a twin 35mm 3s combo. In fact, it does just fine in that 24A combo with the connector only getting slightly warm.

I'm running my F-15 with 370mAh 3s Nano-Tech supposed to be 9.25a constant with a burst of 14.8a and my JST's haven't felt hot.

I'll see if I can test the amps and watts on mine tonight.

But like Joe says, Mini/Micro Deans I've read nothing but good things about, so I will prolly switch to those in the near future.

Here was my maiden flight, which shows a little on how it flies on 3s

I just found out that trimming a rotor down from my 40mm AEO fan unit works great. It threads onto the small shaft of the motor out of the T45 and makes a great looking 35mm fan unit. More blades and they are a bit wider. Most likely pull a bit more amps but give more thrust. May be able to fly on the 450 2s. Report to follow.

I can't wait for the report on this conversion.

Hi,
thanks a lot for all your answers concerning the number of blades to use. IŽll give it a try on 3S now with the 5-blade rotor.

I thought the f18 was the horrible model that everyone was dogging on? I think one guy even made it a pusher? Might have been the mig29.. Do you think the f18 is as good as the t45? I love my t45 and my sabre and would even like to add the f18 as I LOVE that plane, I just thought I read that was a bad one to deal with.
